motorcycles & high altitude carb issues

Post by [tv:] » Sat Aug 18, 2007 7:52 pm

my mutated vehicle is based on a 1977 Honda z50 minitrail. Does any 2 wheeled gear head out there think there will be any issues with the almost 4,000 ft above sea level and the carburetor jets needing to be changed?

I brought it, in a different mutated state, in 2005 and it didn't run for more than 20 minutes without needed a plug change. But I had other vehicles, was lazy and didn't even bother to see if i could adjust the lean/rich mixture to keep her running.

your wisdom will be appreciated.

I have an '85 Suburban V-8 with 4-bbl, and with the carburetor adjusted for sea level, the truck won't clear the Sierras. I have it set so that it's too rich for the Bay Area, and it's fine.

I don't know enough to know whether you need to change the jets or whether you can just set it richer, but my guess is you'll need to do one, the other, or both.

Simple, bring two leaner jets! simple fix if needed. Run the thing down the road, kill it pull, the plug. If its black & wet change the jet.
Objects behind you may appeare larger than reality!
