Donner I-80 night time detours/closures

Nighttime closures mean a detour for all vehicles, one for big rigs and Rvs/buses, another for cars. Includes a safety check for semis.

There were many one lane restrictions when I drove to Reno (from the BA on 80) a week ago. It is gradually getting better, but there have been msny closures in the last few years.

I expect the same closures this year for BM.

Yeah, I looked on the "weekly schedule" link, and there's one lane closures all up and down I-80 in that area. Tons of work!

The nighttime closures caught my attention as MyLarry has a load of steel going into Thunder Mountain Casino. The closure means he can't run into the night/early morning, making a two day run into a three day run.

Anyone coming from the coast hoping for a dawn arrival will need to do some serious replanning.

I wonder if a truck with camper, towing a car dolly and car will be considered in the RV or car classification. If so, it'll break up our caravan.

55 when towing does save a lot of lives. I would forgo the caravan and opt for getting there and back safe.

From Caltrans:

ALL VEHICLES EXCEEDING 18 FEET IN TOTAL LENGTH (with or without tow) WILL BE REQUIRED TO USE THE BUS/TRUCK DETOUR. All vehicles 18 feet or less (with or without tow) will be allowed to proceed to the Secret Town Detour.
