bicycle helmet?
bicycle helmet?
Do folks tend to wear helmets when riding their bikes in BRC? My partner and I are having a bit of a debate about this. I'm acutally asking 2 things:
1. How common is it for helmets to be worn?
2. How many bike related injuries happen at BM where a helmet would have prevented that injury?
Thanks,

Some people where safety gear. Fashion choices are up to you. Legally, with Nevada emulating the rest of the world more and more, gov't agencies could pass helmet laws at any time. The org keep stats on medical incidents, and we aren't the org. Anecdotally, people complain about running into sign posts, fence posts, and steel stakes, so you might decide you need full body armour. Or not.

If you do decide to wear a helmet, at least pimp it up with some good art.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

I would never ride my bike in the city (and when I say city I mean like los angeles, or any other place where there are cars that don't watch out for bike riders and hard pavement and curbs to smash your head on when they run you over), but on the playa, why?
I have never worn a helmet on the playa nor do I recall seeing any else ever wearing a helmet either. There really is no reason to; there are no cars allowed, and the mutant vehicles have to go under 5 mph; so the risk of injury is really small.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

It is always a good idea to wear a helmet. I always wear one on the street. I do not recall seing anyone wear one on the playa. If you choose to wear one, either decorate it so you don't look like a complete dork or wear a black suit, white shirt and a necktie and tell everyone you're a Mormon missionary.

Never seen anyone wear a helmet out there. With the exception of a few little kids. But generally nobody wears one. No real reason to when your just kind of cruising and there are no cars around for the most part.
The only accidents I have seen are as sail man mentioned. People running into street signs, guy wires, fence posts... Nothing super serious. Though I've heard a story or two of people getting ran over by art cars. Though I suppose a helmet wouldn't help much in that situation.

Wear what you want, there are no fashion police on Playa. Unless of course, you nominate yourself to be" The Official Safety Inspector ". Write on your white bike hemet the letters OSI. Or go as Lt. Dangle, he always wears a helmet with his short, short bike shorts.

I just wear a flop hat. Never seen a reason to be protected. But like Token said, "Don't forget the atheletic cup." This year will be the first time I wear one because last year the little hangy downs were hanging down to much and were bouncin around to much.
At the very least I'm gonna keep it with me when I ride around on the playa.
