Reno airport rideshare desk
When does the desk at the Reno airport open up? Can people using early entry through volunteering or theme camps utilize the ride share desk in the weekend or week before Burning Man?
Re: Reno airport rideshare desk
I am not sure how recent this info is, but it suggests the rideshare desk might be available as early as Friday before the event:

Since about 3,000 volunteers will be there early, you might get lucky if you have to be there before the rideshare desk is in operation, but I'd be prepared to write a little sign . . .
This sort of thing always makes me nervous, because there is still an element of chance.
Oh, look what I found:

Through the coordinated efforts of the Burning Man Project, the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, and local and international resources, Air Playa Info was established in 2008 to provide information and resources for travelers on their way from the airport to Burning Man.
Located next to Baggage Claim inside the airport, volunteers at the Air Playa Info table help answer your questions, provide directions and maps, share information about BRC and all kinds of Reno resources, and to help coordinate your rideshare options (see below).
Air Playa Info will be available starting the Friday before the event through the Friday of the event week, from 9am-9pm daily.

Yes, that's the rideshare desk that I meant.
I'll e-mail them and post the response for others to see.

I thought you might. Servicey!
I noticed that you posted to every. single. stressed-out early bird rideshare-seeker the day the rideshare board finally flipped over to 2011. I thought that was very kind.

This from a co-lead for the Airplaya desk.Air Playa Info starts operations on Friday morning, August 26
This year there is one location as part of the "rideshare" program, the Save Mart on Keystone Avenune, found here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&rl ... 2360388617
This store is the single-most popular spot before, during, and after Burning Man, and it is open 24 hours. This will be the fourth year this store will be a location as it has proved to be the best place in town for folks needing a ride to negotiate a ride to the playa rather easily and quickly. It is about 10 minutes from the airport via the freeway.

The two are not mutually exclusive!portaplaya wrote:Kind. Or kind of OCD.Savannah wrote:I thought you might. Servicey!

Thanks for confirming the rideshare desk start date. Are you using it yourself? Are you volunteering with Media Mecca or similar?

I know a guy that knows a guy.
Actually, I'm trying to help my wife get on playa because she arrives on a different date than me.

I was a volunteer last year at the airport and just got the official sign up sheet for the slots for this year. The desk will be manned starting 9 am on Friday, August 26th up until Friday, Sept 2. If you plan to arrive any earlier, I'd suggest you find an alternate method of finding a ride out to the playa. Good luck!

But those bastards at WalMart just look at you like you're crazy when you ask them for a ride.
