Shipping my art from NYC
Shipping my art from NYC
Hello Everyone,
I'm a first time burner from NYC AND bringing art to the Playa. Do you have any suggestions on getting it out there?
Can I fill a pod in new york and have it dropped on the playa? I think this would be a great way to send not only my art but supplies out but I'm not sure about the legistics of having the pod dropped and if that is even something burning man will let me do.
My other options would be to just have it trucked out and unloaded and then picked up to be taken away at the end. Does anyone ALREADY have a big truck leaving from New York/Brooklyn that I could get in on? Or atleast suggest a company that is good for burners to use?
Thanks!

What size/how much are you talking about? Can it be palletized at alll?

Hi,
Welcome to ePlaya!!
You might want to check with your local regional Burning Man group: http://regionals.burningman.com/us_ny.html
It is very likely that someone is shipping something to BRC this year.
Good luck in your quest...

Re: Shipping my art from NYC
NYC burners normally have one or more containers shipped. There has been no action yet this year on the web site, although a few months back someone on the regional announce list said they would be doing it again this year. The web site is http://www.nyccontainer.com/
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

I suspected that was the case, didn't want to make any promises for other regions

Re: Shipping my art from NYC
The NY announce list just sent out this:
We are just starting to gather costs for the container, and we are
pretty sure they won't be TOO different from last year. Fingers
crossed!
Just to keep you up to date on a few dates and facts:
1. Yes, NYC Container Camp is going this year with 1, 2 or 3
containers! Depends on how much is needed.
2. We will announce costs toward the middle of or end of June.
3. We will go on sale after PEX. But this year, since the holiday is
in the middle of the week, likely after the following weekend.
4. We have not updated our site yet (www.nyccontainer.com) but will do
so when we know costs. Still, most questions will be answered on the
website. Check there first.
5. We will be loading in at the same location as the past few years.
It's a fantastic party! We are always looking for day-of volunteer
help, so look for an email closer to load in date.
6. Load in will be ONE day the weekend of Aug. 11. Either saturday or
Sunday. It's usually Saturday but we just need to see when the space
for load in is available. (PS...read that again. I'm not saying it's
saturday or sunday. we don't know yet)
7. When we announce the prices, we will do so from the container
email. Look for an email from the container!

Re: Shipping my art from NYC
If I can help anyone in any way with shipping, I do tons of shipping for my business and have hookups with palletized truck shipping all over the country. If you're really in dire need of shipping something that can be strapped to a pallet, then I could possibly help you get it from point A to B. Just putting that out there.

Boxes can go on pallets, right?

That is a beautiful occupation.

Yes, but I think you have to have uniform boxes... And make sure the weight's right. In other words, it's a great help to businesses doing larger shipments, but maybe a bit dicey for artwork...
