truck stop w/ showers?
truck stop w/ showers?
Any truck stops with showers on the way from BM to Reno?
Or a very cheap motel for just a shower?

The truck stops with showers are all on or near I-80. Fernley has Pilot, Loves, and Winterscorner with showers. Sparks has Flying J, Alamo or Petro, and a TA. Verdi has Boomtown Casino truckstop. They all have showers, but not all of them are available to "civilians." Many truckstops will only let CDL holders buy a shower, but it can't hurt to ask. Showers run $7 to $10.
Ah the joys of being married to a trucker. He has frequent fueler or driver reward cards and gets a free shower with the purchase of 75 ~ 100 gallons of diesel fuel.
happy rinsing,

I guess the cheap motel method will have to be the way..
I believe the showers at the Flying Js are for truckers only.AntiM wrote:The truck stops with showers are all on or near I-80. Fernley has Pilot, Loves, and Winterscorner with showers. Eh, the trucker potties are different, so my opinion is limited. As for food, I haven't been on the road with Larry enough to form a good idea yet. I'm partial to Flying J buffets, so far most have been filling, varied and fresh. Ask me next year when I've spent some road time with him! He doesn't always get to choose his fuel stops as the company prepays his diesel, but he does have a nifty trucker guide book for the entire US.
As for "using your dad's card" well if it is a fueler or points card, sure thing, but I hope you're not refering to the CDL. That's a real driver's license after all! You can always ask about the showers, some are open to the public. The worst they can say is "no, you hippie freak."
Trucker world is an entire universe unto itself. Fascinating. And there's 400,000+ jobs waiting for drivers with CDLs. Larry had six firm offers during training, and two others since he's been on the road with Central Refridegerated. (rant over, thanks for playing)

Just spoke with my trucker, he says the food and potties all depend on the manager. One truckstop could be fabulous while the next supposedly identical franchise might suck ass. And you can't tell by the number of trucks parked outside, most stop because their fuel is contracted to particular companies.
Yeah, that was helpful.

I've liked the Flying J's as well, especially the rest rooms. Some of them have like real walls and doors and some privacy to them which is nice. I think the food is good too, but it can seem a little expensive at times. Some of the other places I've been to have been gross. I remember one in Wyoming last year... lots of construction going on, almost out of fuel and had to stop, and not at a Flying J's. Place was the middle of nowhere and was yucky. We got gas, but I walked out of the rest room without touching anything.AntiM wrote:Eh, the trucker potties are different, so my opinion is limited. The coolest truck stop I was ever at was one in Eden, Idaho. Yes, Eden. Some of you might see where this is going, or you might have been there. The main seating area for the food is decorated with, you guessed it, a huge leafy (but fake) tree with a big ol apple and snake hanging from it. It was pretty stinking cool. I wish I would have gotten pictures of it, but we were in the process of moving from Seattle to Colorado Springs so I had no clue where my camera was packed.
The food was pretty good (a variety of mini nicer fast food places) and the restrooms were nice and clean. Wish I could remember what it was called.... Oh well, Eden, Idaho pretty much just consists of that truck stop so if you ever go looking for it, it's pretty easy to find.
