Air Playa Info!

Post by trilobyte » Tue Aug 06, 2013 9:32 am

Flying into Reno to get to Burning Man? Check out the Air Playa Info desk! The awesome people at the Reno International Airport have recognized that with 15K+ burners traveling in and departing from their fine airport for the event, Burning Man is the busiest time of the year for them... and they've been incredibly awesome in working with Burning Man to help make things run smoothly.

To help with that, Burning Man will have a Playa Info kiosk at the airport, located next to baggage claim! Look for the 'mini man' from Burning Man HQ upon your arrival at baggage claim. They'll be open daily from 9am to 10pm, starting from Friday 8/23 and running through Thursday 8/29. Volunteers will be able to provide you with directions and local resources to help you get those last minute details figured out. And brand new for this year, they'll have the ability to send instant messages to/from the Playa Info booth at Center Camp in BRC!

Burning Man and the Air Playa Info team ask that you remember the following:
  • Do not bring prohibited items to the airport
  • Read the survival guide on where to take your trash and recycling. No trash dumping at the airport (or in the airport parking lot), Leave No Trace at the airport!
  • Please be showered and fully dressed before you get to the airport, your fellow passengers will appreciate it!

Also, for getting/offering a Rideshare to BRC from Reno Airport or the Keystone Savemart:
  • Only ride with people you feel comfortable with. BRC is a great place, but Usual Rules Apply.
  • If you're offering a ride and planning on stopping somewhere for supplies let that me known.
  • If you're looking for a ride, but need to stop for supplies somewhere, then be upfront about that. Know what you need, and where to get it.
  • You need a Vehicle Pass for the vehicle.
  • Everyone in the vehicle needs to have a ticket (in hand, or at Will Call) The event is sold out. No ticket and EVERYONE gets sent back to Reno, vehicle licence plate is noted, etc..
So expect to show your ride your ticket, and ask to see theirs.
(this has been on rare occasions to rob a ticket... but you need to know before you're sent off Playa and blacklisted)
  • Custom: where you can, first waiting should be offered rides first.
  • Great if you can offer to help with gas costs.
  • If you're at the airport when Air Playa Info is open, then they will often assist as they can.
  • Rideshare locations are also Leave No Trace.
  • Don't fill the airport's garbage/recycle bins with packaging for the crap you brought with you or bought around Reno.
  • Everyone needs to be wearing a seat-belt.
  • Please drive slowly and carefully through the communities along the way to BRC (and never beyond the speed limit), and with your driving lights on (as per their request, due to several incidents).
  • (I shouldn't need to be adding this one, but...) Go to the bathroom before you leave!
You can taxi over to the Savemart from the airport and rideshare from there, or taxi back to the airport.

Google for more tips on getting a Rideshare from Reno.
That's one word I regret googling during breakfast.
Video games are giving kids unrealistic expectations on how many swords they can carry.
, but don't harm the red dragon that frequents the area from time to time. He and I have an agreement.
