2016 Gate & Event Start Time

This year, the Burning Man gates will open up at 12:01am on Sunday August 28th (that is one minute after midnight, Saturday going into Sunday) to encourage burners to enter during off-peak travel times.

The Burning Man event official start time is 6pm on Sunday August 28th.

The earlier arrival time is intended to both help with traffic on the highways and to give you an opportunity to set up your camp infrastructure before the 6pm start time.

DO NOT SHOW UP BEFORE 12:01AM! If you do, your vehicle will be placed in a staging area - aka D lot. From there, you'll wait until after all the people who showed up at 12:01 or later go into Burning Man before you. They also tend to stage it as first in, last out, so the earlier you show up, the (much) longer you wait.
