DON'T SPEED On Gate Road!!!

Postby Canoe » Mon Aug 28, 2017 4:47 pm

Burning Man Traffic‏ @bmantraffic Monday ~4:14pm

The Gate road is causing white out due to participants speeding down Gate Road! The Gate crew is evaluating traffic due to safety concerns.

Here's what ONE speeder can throw up.

This is why there's a 10 mph speed limit on Gate Road.
Someone coming in at speed and raising a huge dust plume behind him, that blows over onto the traffic, engulfing them.

It's amazing how much dust 15 mph throws up.

One year I saw speeders on Gate Road coming in on Friday afternoon for the weekend, causing a dust storm in 1/3 of Black Rock City, as the wind blew their raised dust over the northern part of BRC.

The high speed vehicles are usually the cops - who don't give a fuck about such things unless someone else is doing it - or staff of one sort or another.

I've seen one cop and one ambulance.
They usually use the non-public entrance/exit from the playa to the highway.

All of the rest were Burners racing to Gate...

Well it's about time we pulse gate road inbound with pilot cars and escort vehicles fully decked out with mini-guns and flame canons!

And screw the 10 mph, punish them with a true 5 mph.

You know, a brisk walk is 4 mph.

The scary thing is that you could probably convince the BLM or sheriff to "offer this service" for an extra $1M fee and choco-tacos with a few well placed complaints and a couple of coughs.

After a wet winter the playa is clay. Our arrival, outside services, DPW, LEO is what breaks it down into dust. The prevailing wind brings it into the city from gate road.

The 2 side is less in that dust path and has less disturbance with walk-in camping, no idea why it's unpopular compared to the 10 side.

Do they water gate road and the Point 1 road?

(The city does move a bit each year, but you get the idea)

I've seen the single-lane emergency track (beside the multi-lane participant track) getting watered.

The Gate Road from the highway onto the playa and across to Gate is very much upwind of the North East section of BRC.

Burning Man Traffic didn't have a 5 pm update.
The 6 pm update was over 15 minutes late and was:

Burning Man Traffic‏ @bmantraffic
Speeding on Gate Road is enforced by LEO and causes white outs in the city. Travel times: Wadsworth to Gate Road 1:40. Gate wait 30 minutes.

Wonder if they shut down part of Gate road for a while.
