Bicycle with sidecar

Post by Nightterror » Tue Aug 16, 2005 9:30 am

I am thinking about making a detachable sidecar to attach to a mountain bike. My concern is that it would be too difficult to pedal. Does anyone have experience with this. I've thought about the rickshaw idea but i would rather have my lovely lady next to me. I have all the parts and time necessary to complete either project within the week.

All suggestions appreciated.

Sounds like a fun idea.
My guess is the (non-powered) side might drag abit...
...especially later in the week when the playa is all broken up.
...keep your eyes open though. I know of a group of Minions
that would be glad to aid you in transporting your queen around the playa.
Details later....
good luck
hope you get it to work.
see you out there man!

What about a recumbent bike attached to the side of your regular bike? That way she could pedal or not depending on conditions and how she feels at the time.

Thanks guys

I will add that my Queen is carrying my devil spawn in her belly and while she is still mobil, she is short of energy. I know this because she often says "You did this to me" and "I am tired."

Instead of a sidecar, think of a rickshaw. I have a friend who does a rickshaw every year and pulls people around for fun. Having the trailer behind instead of beside makes it easier to steer a straight line. Think of all those attachments to bikes you can get at REI and the like for hauling kids and junk. Maybe one of them will be able to support your load or can be modified to. It's getting kinda short on time to be constructing your own from scratch.

My friend's rickshaw is at

but WORK ALERT: the first picture on that page is of a naked woman. Scroll down to the photo captioned "The Man in the dust."

If you go to my homepage and click on the logo photo on the left, you'll see my four wheeled bike. A bit late in the year to make or buy one, but perhaps it will spawn (not devil spawn tho) ideas for next year.

Thoughts on this type of a design? Maybe with a fixed comfy lounge chair.

I'd give that design a 9 out f 10. If you can find Vol. 2 of Make Magazine, look up the article on Nicaraguan know-how and see what they do with their bikes. It gets 9 instead of 10 because it looks like steering would be an effort on the playa, worse in bad conditions, but who knows if they'll be bad. I know one year I couldn't ride my bike the surface was so bad.

I always preach about having a back up, but time is short, as I mentioned before.

One more thought: a tandem bike. She doesn't have to pedal, but can if she desires. The bike has value after the playa so you could sell it. Depends on how far along she is, of course. Sounds like it might be too far along.

Looks like it would be superb
for long range travelling tandem sexual encounters....

....join the "mile long club"...

You could really "drive her home" with that thing!!!

Note to Nightterror:
I would not characterize your dear,
sweet lady : "Miss Rhodesia" as anything other than ~Angelic~

I did notice that she has quite a set
of fingernails though ,
from what I remember...

Hope she is feeling well and comfy.
You too.
1 week and we are headed that way!

She is an Angel - Thank you

5 months along - great spirits and has that glow though she has chewed all her nails. Something about unbalanced chemical thingy, I don't know.

I told her I was building her a bicycle like an ice cream vendor and all she could say was, "ice cream, i get ice cream? Can I have it on top of a doughnut?"

Lucky for her she is looking great as ever. (Okay just kidding but she is)

We can't wait to see y'all.
