An authorization charge of $1.01 (refunded in 3-5 days) is common to many online merchants to make sure a card works. We discussed it here on ePlaya, but it would have been a really nice addition to "fees" in the FAQ.

Got it figured out! Turns out by some happy accident that we registered her for all tiers, so, she got a ticket at $390. What a happy accident though!

I thought it might be that. It's really easy to accidentally choose all tiers, but I didn't want to assume.

(It is indeed a happy accident. Tell her it actually increased her odds of getting tickets, being in all tiers!)

This is true--if you're willing to pay $390, so someone else has the possibility of paying less, you don't have a choice as to what tier you actually get. If anyone wants to discuss that, please use one of the many pre-established ticket threads that are philosophical, thoughtful or negative. This thread is for joy and nervousness.

I'm picturing a giant gas fed nightmare machine, churning in the basement of some boarded up building in the Mission District.

Smoke and tractor fed paper fly from the noisy lumbering juggernaut while a small spinach and puke green terminal from the 70s scrolls endless email confirmations. Next to it a bank of Western Electric phones on acoustic modem couplers endlessly dial and screech out data tones.

There will be a notice on the main site and here, when the drawing is done. Expect the drawing to probably continue through tomorrow, 2/1/12.

There will be emails sent to all registrants saying "Yes, you have tickets" or "No, here's more info about the March drawing and other opportunities."

I really hope they get to tier 2 soon - My card expires tonight because I'm a dunderhead and didn't know I was going until 2 days before registration closed. My own fault, and I know there's chances to get tickets later, but really hoping luck runs in my favor tonight! I WILL MAKE IT TO THE PLAYA SOMEHOW!

curious. why are the top tier being drawn first? guess i thought it would be completely random selection of all tiers?

You got chosen. That's a test charge, to make sure that your card exists and they have all the info they need to make it run through. You will get that back in a few days.
