I can surely agree with this. The whole nature of my posts on this thread is the principled and abstract ethics and intent of the situation. Once I'm there, I doubt I'll even remember this thread or it's implications.

Cheers! Meet me in Da Bar, first round's on me!
So if I put together a fun meet n greet at our camp, are you all coming? Will you welcome everyone with open arms?

nor the principles. you'll just immerse and experience.

Thanks, but I don't frequent the bar. But you're welcome to drop by on the playa for a drink any time. We always have beer mugs and martini glasses in the freezer.

Sorry guys, we had no intention of blocking anyone out! Just limited space and lots of equipment. We'll keep this in mind for next year. In the past we've had trouble with people biking/driving through "back of house" and have tried to keep that compact while keeping "front of house" as open as possible.
No worries, we knew the deal. You were at the intersection and wisely decided to point the camp at 7:30. It just sorta made us "Whisky and Dust" (7:45 and E) feel like we were camped in a parking lot but it was no biggie. you guys had an amazing camp. Thanks!

I just rejoined eplaya after many years of disuse. I was referred to this thread from another BM list where there have many posts regarding this capitalization of what many regard a mostly non-commercial enterprise. Most responses see this as a threat to the concept of a "Gift" society which functions very well for a week and then disappears leaving a smile, a tear and occasionally a trip to the ER.
This thread has many comments concerning the perceived gap between the haves & the have not's as well the very real for profit motive of your enterprise. I know that we all live in a free market society. But I must admit that one of joys that appeals to the old hippie in me is the almost Marxist sharing around me on the playa.
Besides handing out the occasional beer from cooler I think you should include some volunteer activities like greeters, center camp, etc.

yes grape, i think this might happen anyway, almost by "magic'...

in all seriousness, i had to learn the hard way that you cannot judge a book by it's cover, especially the tabla rasa that is burning man.

you just never know, and i have seen, felt, been a part of transformations that i would have never thought possible before.

pre-conceived notions are the issue, and how to avoid them and give everybody the benefit of the doubt without bias.

i like money. i like marxism. i like making money. i like giving it away. i like black. i like white too, and all the shades of grey are ok in my book.

burning man MAY help people get whatever "it" is and it May not. I'd like to think that the event can not only withstand these "Intrusions" of defaultia but perhaps in reverse, begin the inevitable process of Burning Man infiltrating Defaultia, and hence changing it for the Better.

i'm going to quote Halcyon here, don't give me any shit, but he's one hundred percent right.

i've decided that it is much more effective and in the long run the way to a better future is to stop fighting the darkness, and instead propagate and spread Lightness.

Do not worry about Defaultia my friends, We Will Bury It.

so of the maybe 60,000 people camping in the desert the fact that 10 of them spent about $9,500 each instead of the aprox. $2,000 i will be spending is going to destroy this whole thing makes me raise an eyebrow???? if I join a theme camp that has a kitchen set up and a shade structure will i be radically less self reliant? after all I will be paying someome to take it out there for me..., maybe that is not the real issue, maybe it is that kevin stands to make a profit ( that is to say if someone gives him $95,000, which i think has yet to happen ) and that may go against some core value of the community or something..., got me, what i do know is that if i have an option of someone it will be based on my own interaction with that person,,,, if these $9,500 guys/ gals are douche bags,,,, then i will avoid them,,,,if they are the greatest mother fuckers i have ever come across i hope to become life long friends

regardless i am stoked to get out to BRC and look forward to 2012 when i can say last year was better

My conversation with the seller

Post by BaalTeshuva » Fri Feb 11, 2011 6:15 pm

Here is the interaction I have had with this seller... I would recommend more people try to help this person find peace..

Dear inflatablegames,

As you seemed too incised to continue our conversation or apologize I am reporting this entire conversation to Ebay customer service... have a nice night and do try to relax

Dear inflatablegames,

At no point did I make a treat towards you or any one else... I simply stated that what your doing is contrary to the spirit of burning man. At no point did I threaten a government official... I simply stated that Karma is a bitch sometimes... That there is a natural ebb and flow to the good will in the universe... If you cant stand to hear that what your doing is bad karma then you shouldn't do it... And please let me repeat my ending statement Have a nice day... Try not to be too much of an A-hole while your at it.
However the statements you have made toward me are what I would call a threat... I would love to talk to one of many lawyers that I know, both friends and family and see what my legal options are... However I will gladly accept an apology before I decide to contact E-bay and let them know of your reproachable words...

Thank you and enjoy your night... Unless your panties are too bunched up, in which case I would suggest you take a chill pill in what ever form you my enjoy,be it chemical or natural, positive or negative... May I recommend a hot bath with some relaxing music and some candles... Well good night

Dear bebop.404,

Did you know you can do a year in jail for threatening a government official? Be careful on who you threaten. You have no idea who is on the other side of your threats. Better go read up on penal code 76(A).

Dear inflatablegames,

People like you are a threat to the great spirit that fills the playa with love and positive vibes.... Just wanted to say the karma's a bitch... I normally do not wish harm on others, but I'm sure that karma will bitch slap you for this one... I don't know how or when, but it will happen... Have a nice day while you can... Peace

If they'll camp within view of the regular Burning Man set and even intermix socially, I have no problem at all with their high flying camp setup. Usually the only thing the very rich will freely allow the poor to have is distance (a quote I recall from a college reading book). Maybe this could be a healthy experience for them.

Intermix socially?!?! Now you're asking way too much. I don't even intermix socially.

True story: My ex brother in law was what many people call a bum. He spent all his time fishing and wandering around, generally looked like a hobo, and didn't have a penny to his name. One time when I was at Tai 'chi class, one of the students, a very distinguished medical doctor, was going on and on about his friend who he meets when he goes fly fishing. He was in awe of this guy. I'll be danged if it didn't turn out to be my brother in law.
