Just won 1 $320 ticket! A big thanks to all of the mods and posters on this board for a fascinating discussion these past weeks, and best of luck to everyone still waiting.

Wouldn't it be astonishing if there was a worldwide shortage of Atomic Fireballs??

And so you'd just get random, roundish things inserted into your ticket envelope instead (as the original intent of doing so was not in giving us delicious candy, so much as--I hear tell--preventing a slim envelope from slipping through the cracks in the post office or delivery truck).

So I might get an envelope with like . . . a staple-remover in it, and you might get a used "C" battery.

I suppose we could still put 'em in our mouths for ceremonial reasons.

It's not over until it's over! The later into the drawing you are, the higher your chance that receiving a ticket will mean receiving a less expensive ticket.

Plus, you can always get up on that cold March morning and buy up to four (4) tickets straight-up. There will be tickets traded and sold in June too, especially from all those damn hoarders who ruin everything.

Anyway, it's not over, and probably less than half the tickets have even been awarded yet.

Drawing the third tier first makes the most sense to increase the odds of people who can only afford those tickets. I do wonder if the knowledge of that would've changed peoples' strategies, and if the drawing order was purposely suppressed?

i feel like this is a math word problem, and I got a C in statistics. Elaborate?

Okay: pretend there are 10 tickets in each tier and 12 people who signed up for each tier.

Lowest to highest: There are 36 people in the drawing. 1st tier 36 people are drawing for 10 tickets, so three go to high tier folks, three go to mid tier, and to be nice 4 go to low tier. So everyone in that part of the drawing had a 10 in 36 chance. Mid-tier there are 14 people because 10 people have won and another 6 are out of the lotto. So five mid tier and five high-tier get tickets. Then (and this is unrealistic in the actual world, but all it means is that I could have picked better numbers) both the high tier get tickets and the 8 tickets are put back on auction in March.

Highest to lowest. There are 12 people in the drawing and ten get tickets. Mid-tier, 12 mid tier plus two high tier so over all odds are 14 in 10. So, we'll say that 9 second tier and one of the first tier get tickets. So now there are 3 mid tier and 1 high tier and 12 in the low tier, so the odds are there are 16 people going for 10 tickets. That's a lot better chance for the people who could only afford low tier.

Remember these numbers are totally deflated for simplification's sake. The odd posted only work in this scenario, I have no ideas what the actual numbers are.

My girl and I can only afford the lower tier (which is now pretty much over what we really can afford, but we're making it work), so that's what we asked for. We're still waiting for an email.... crapping ourselves here!
