2012 : Take back Burning Man
That's right, Fellow Burners! Pay the Federal Parks and Recreation system your Camping Fees, ($4 a day for seven days)
Bring a small compact porta john for you and your campmates, and we all agree to show up in Early August on the Playa. (or somewhere) This is quite possible given the myriad ways of communicating these days.
Who NEEDS to pay outrageous prices and get shuttled through a lottery system for a ticket WHEN WE are the reason we all go. What happened to radical self-reliance and doing things OUR way? Do we really need someone to handle our porta-johns? Traffic? We all contribute into it.. and make it what it is.
How about We all just agree to show up (Occupy Black Rock Desert??) and while it might not be like last year as Art Cars may be hard to deal with (it is Federal Land after all), but it will be CHEAPER and Dare I say.. more fun and a little more unfettered by a BORG who obviously doesn't really give a rats ass about it's participants (only the profit margin increasing)... except that it's, you know, US.. the ones who make the camps, put on the costumes, create the magic in the first place!
Without YOU and I believing in the dream... believing in what we bring... what exactly IS Burning Man??? That's right. Nothing.
It's Glastonbury. Coachella. Woodstock. Lollapalooza... all great festivals.. without the magic of YOU.

Interesting that it falls on Independence Day? Maybe we can proclaim independence from the BORG?

I will have to pass. I have been summoned to create magic elsewhere early August.
In my world there's only legible and more legible.

Re: 2012 : Take back Burning Man
You know that there's been a totally free '4th of Juplaya' event there every year? I hear it's an awesome homebrew event. No fees, pack it in/pack it out, guns and fireworks and driving real fast on the dust and shit. The downside of course is the date's already taken, you'll have to schedule your protest for another time.

... and it is on the BLM's radar. They may start collecting the fees one of these years. Of course, you could choose to be responsible and mail them a check for your $4 per day per person.

Also, the BLM begins to close off the main even area sometime just after juplaya. I don't know the exact date, but they will evict you. Forcefully and with glee if you're unlicky.

Ya gotta understand, Doc Pyro doesn't actually leave his camp during the event so he sees the event through wine colored glasses.

Doc will drink any wine, regardless of the actual color.

Re: 2012 : Take back Burning Man
Doc, let's make some scotch.
Scotch?
As naval officers,
we're supposed to be resourceful.
Frank here's got a great opportunity.
Let's fix him up.
Right.
Frank, where is the rest of that alcohol
we were drinking last night?
-Now, that ain't even the right color.
-Quiet, boy.
Color?
Coke. You got any?
What shade would you like?
Shade?
Pale, smokey?
Well, l told her Red Label.
-Red Label?
-Red Label.
lt may look like it,
but it sure won't taste like it.
Doc, what does scotch taste like?
lt tastes like....
You know what it's always tasted
a little like to me?
lodine.
Of course.
One drop of iodine, for taste.
Let me try that.
This calls for a medical opinion.
How about it?
We're on the right track.
Now we need something extra for age.
What have you got there, Doug?
Seltzer, some fruit salts, hair tonic....
Hair tonic! That's got a coal tar base.
One drop of hair tonic, for age.
That'll age the daylights out of it.
That's it!
You know, it does taste a little like scotch.
Do you know, it does.
That dumb little blonde will never know
the difference!
All right, Frank,
Doug and l made the scotch...
...the nurse is your department.
Don't link to anything here!

Honestly If i can't get a ticket, no one can. shut down BRC. Park 1000 cars/bodies right outside gerlach on the highway. Small ticket for great fun. Clusterfuck to end all clusterfucks. Are there really that many tow trucks? /end_snark

Re: 2012 : Take back Burning Man
Two hundred square miles of playa don't get shut down, only the area leading into where BM locates the event.
There are myriad number of ways to get on/off the playa without going through Gerlach. It's a bit more complicated, but the roads are gravel and not too bad.
Go north of the event site by about 40 miles and it's flat, beautiful and amazing.

Simple. Start your own regional. Make it awesome.
Re: 2012 : Take back Burning Man
My regional will be in space.
Tickets are decidedly more expensive.

Hey... it's radical self reliance. Bring your own air. From our survival guide: "Bring at least 25 cubic feet of oxygen, per person, per day".

That is because DMV won't give him a permit for his flame thrower truck because it only looked like a flame throwing truck and not a duck.oneeyeddick wrote:Ya gotta understand, Doc Pyro doesn't actually leave his camp during the event so he sees the event through wine colored glasses.
