Busloads of tourists?

Hi everybody....as usual, after a little time has passed, I was thinking....I hope that everyone that wants a ticket gets one. Everyone. Now that the pressure is off of me, I am seeing a little clearer now. I go to BM because of you, ALL of you. If you were not there, I would have no reason to go. So, my mantra now is for everyone to get everything they want and need, at BM and in life. That includes tickets for everyone, (except those damn bus-loads of tourists they bring in on Sat. night. How rude. That is not what it is about.)

This will be my first year, so I don't really know what you mean by this. Is there a tour bus that comes in with tourist, and they drive through BM like it's a zoo, or african safari?? "If you look out your right window, you will see a midget riding a tricile in pink spandex" *camera flash* *camera flash*, "And look, it's a heard of the mystical Sparkle Ponies!" *camera flash* *camera flash*.....

Do they have to buy tickets for entry?

Remi, it is pretty much just that. The bus, or busses arrive and park near Center Camp. The operators were handing out glow-sticks to the passengers so they might "fit-in". I don't know if they have to buy tickets, but I hope they have to pay....I simply couldn't look...sorta took me aback. I will avoid that small area next year, just don't want to see them. This particular aspect is so tiny in the grand scheme of all that is going on, it really makes no difference. Enjoy, you are going to love it.

No. These are not safari tour operators. These are community outreach operations with local groups that are key to forming bonds with for the good of the event. They have been doing this for years.. it's not something new.

I think what you're complaining about is the community outreach program. It's part of what the Org does to help maintain a good working relationship with various groups in the surrounding counties (not just the immediate area). By giving them the opportunity to take a peek and see what the event's about, it lets them see that our little thing in the desert is much more than just some kind of crazy hippy drug party. Relax, the tickets they come in on are a completely different allotment.

Empire has zero effect on this, as NOBODY from empire even went to the event anymore.

I've even been told that one of the tour buses is the local (Fernley maybe?) retirement home.

On another similar but different not, when the RV broke down in Fernley I ended up standing in line at Wal-Mart with one of the Fernley City Council members. He said, that the Fernley city council was totally for Burning Man, for the obvious reasons. Also, that he had never been except one of the tours a few years back.
Real nice older guy, I wish I could remember his name.

I was standing out by the road next to the camp glowstick shooters in 2010 kind of dazing off still in last nights "fog", when two completely clean soccer mom types come walking up to me with a scavenger hunt checklist. Stark white, not a speck of dust on them. Straight from the PTA meeting. I of course was covered in head to toe with an inch thick layer of dust after mellowing out for sunrise - morning under the public oriental 2 story house thingy by 3 o'clock with all the burlap pillows under it.

"Is this Camp.. umm.. 'Inspiratum'?" they ask. "Uhh.. yeah?" "We're supposed to shoot some 'glowstick shooters'.. whatever those are.. y'think you could help us out so we could check it off our list?'"

Dazed. "Um.. ok. Sure." I show them the shooters.. they take turns cocking them back and WHAM hitting the bell with them.

The both giggle with delight and wave and scamper off.

It happened. It was the local womens clubs on day tour. They were having one hell of a time..

There more the local community enjoys the event the better.

Those glow stick shooters looked like a lot of fun! We'll have to venture there next year and give it a shot.

There are numerous busloads throughout the week, and it's more than just seniors, and they come from more than just the towns you pass between Reno and the playa.

yup, for years now.... In 2k I think we were walking along after the group was dropped off.. This couple were easy 75+. The husband had the small dog (they were allowed back then), shorts w/black knee hi socks ect ect.. His Wife got about 200yds from the group and looked around, she then takes her top off and spins around. Later that day we had 2 older ladies walk in and asked if we were a gay friendly camp. (big flag on campmate RV) we said very much so and how can we help them.. They needed to get the "girls" out of the sun and re sun-blocked... They were locals also and love it.. They both had been married (hetro) many years and now were a couple and blown away by the burners... I would love to see more of this happen even from Reno. Rather have the buses do the drop off on the outer-rings but...
