Low Income Ticket Program
Re: Low Income Ticket Program
Texting only maybe.
I can't even find one anymore.
Adding it to my phone would cost zero.
But why type?
I have a phone.
Cable is a sucker bet, whether you have the cash or not.
If they don't offer a la carte, why be stupid enough to give them money.
They spend millions fighting choice.
Opt out.
I don't know anyone spending that on a dog either.

Re: Low Income Ticket Program
Sure, but lots of people type instead of talking, especially younger peeps. The sample budget that lemur posted didn't budget for a phone or internet at all, other than the texting. I imagine that a $20/month text-only plan is cheaper than a voice-only plan and/or internet.gyre wrote:Texting only maybe.

Not sure why I decided to jump in here. I never talk on the phone, don't own a cell, don't text, and did not apply for LIT. *shrug*
It might be partially this:

Except that I'm not even sure you are wrong, and it's not like lemur needs someone covering his back. I'm just looking for someone to disagree with about something, apparently.

When you consider just how inane most texts are, it's even more flabbergasting.gyre wrote:$240 year to text?

Re: Low Income Ticket Program
The phone disability thing has me baffled, especially since when I meet anyone that can't talk on the phone, they chatter away in person.
All of the plans I've looked at include text whether you want it or not.
Net is included on many, though not unlimited like texting.
About $10 to $20 a month for infinite data.
Our local companies have no text only plans, but voice and text starts at $25 a month.
Land lines have been too expensive for some time though.
I prefer the much better audio quality.

here's another....most Krispy Kritters out there smoke an Eighth a week of the Dank Nugg Nuggs, or at least a couple of six pack a week as some sort of mental diversion...like cigarettes at $10 a pack times 365 days a year
35 dollars for weed x 52 weeks equals Holy Shit!!!
enough to go to burning man.
hmmmmmmmmm.
it's really a matter of priorities.
for me, food, and proper medical care get shoved aside.

Yeah, I'm about ready to resort to some sort of canned "speech" about how the sensibilities and roots of the burn are rather punk...pink wrote:I thought Incubus was damned uppity for a birgin too, trying to tell us what being a 'burner' meant. If I allowed myself to not want people at the burn, it would be self-righteous, "evolved" persons with sticks up their butts.

Hey Guys,
I'm new here.
I am following this discussion since the begining, and I finally wanted to post something. Why ? I don't know to be honest. There is no point I guess..
I applied for LIT and still have no response. And as you can imagine, I'm checking my inbox 20 times a day !
I emailed them and they told me that they are FLOODED...which was expected...so, still waiting.
I just wanted to react regarding the overall discussion. It's too bad to read some of the posts saying/assuming bad stuff about people here.
We are all here to go at the same event, in the same spirit and state of mind. We can't really judge.
If I am awarded a LIT, it will be my first time at the Burning Man!

Low Income Ticket Program
Just wanted to give some hope, I applied to the low income program and for legitimate reasons along with about 8 pages of documentation. Got an email last night I have my golden ticket
I am half way home, now must get my soul mate his so we can head back and renew our vows on the playa. Hang on if you are holding on still!! Just wanted to share a piece of happy information. It took about 6 weeks to hear back for me. Good Luck and luck to us still since we are one ticket short, but following all the suggestions by the BMORG even when heartbreaking.

Glad to hear you have a ticket. (spending a few years on this board has induced me to dislike the phrase "golden ticket", it is nothing you have done.)
So, you are planning on just picking up a soul mate on the way to the burn?? or You have a soul mate and just need their ticket now?? {its been a long day, me-no-read everythingy}
Anyhoo, I hope you get what you need. (and that you need what you want)

Re: Low Income Ticket Program
im happy to announce my friend Eddie got his notification and LIT approval today.
He left his job as an associate professor at RIT to try and start his own clothing business on a shoestring.
it's one of the hardest industries to break into (especially since he's not a M.O.T....)
He found out the hard way...but i dont think of things in the terms of mistakes, you LEARN from them, so they are an asset in my mind.
anyway, to be able to eat, he teaches young children Art at the Memorial Art Gallery.
he doesnt make much, but quite frankly, i think its one of the Best jobs in the World. He does too.
this will be his third year on the playa, and as his sherpa, i am SO proud of him, he took to the playa like a mutant to radiation.
Did i mention also, that Eddie, has single handedly raised the number of black men on the playa to double digits.
i counted 11 last year....
the system works.

Re: Low Income Ticket Program
Sorry for the double post, but I am absolutely BEYOND excited to announce I received my email telling me I have been awarded a low income ticket!
I'm so incredibly grateful to whoever deemed me worthy! I can get into full on excited mode now, as well as full-on panic mode, with less than 4 months to prepare!
I saw the e-mail just before 6:30, and was bracing myself for reality, when it struck, and it was golden! This will be my 6th year on the playa. Burning Man has meant so much to my life. I m so grateful to continue to be a part of it,
