Thanks feet, savannah, cat, moon, and whoever put these tickets back into Step. You are all the best!

17ers, it's your time! Tickets are still flowing, even if it's slowed a little. It's coming Arnoldo, it's coming.

dont forget to keep your eyes on craigslist. i was lucky enough to find 2 tickets for my camp mates at $400/ea on CL. so that's 2 12:21 STEP tickets that won't get purchased. only 2 more to go now!

i've been flagging tickets for sale more than $500 as "prohibited" in hopes that it'll, at least, make it harder for the seller to gouge desperate burners.

Late replying here, but i was chilling on the beach in Mexico last week when i too received the mysterious second e-mail offering STEP tickets. I originally got a STEP ticket e-mail back in early May (12:08 timestamp) which I let expire since I got a distributed ticket from my theme camp. Sure enough on 6/21 I got the e-mail saying it a STEP ticket was available for purchase. Curiosity made me click on the link which did pull up a $420 ticket, not some error message. I went no further. Not sure how this happened but it did cost me about $1 in international roaming data charges to whet my curiosity!!!

What I do know is that as LadyWednesday said, distributed tickets will be mailed, therefore she will not have issues of two tickets in her name.

Just wanted to chime in, sorry Eric, I did not contact BM about this glitch, not sure a week later if it is too late. As far as Craigslist postings for ticket sales above face value, it is their policy NOT to sell tickets above face value and you can report these scalper from the link on the post and it will be removed from the site!!!

HANG IN THERE ALL YOU STEPPERS!!!!! The tickets will come to you sooner than later!!!!!

Congrats to all those who have endured the pain of waiting and received tickets! The burn will be even sweeter after this stuggle.

Um, er, ahh, hrmm ... so ah, what happens to STEP now that tickets have been mailed out? If STEP has been about folks returning their tickets while they're still ether and all it took was a whisper (email) in the right ear, will any more be entering the pipeline? Seems rather unlikely that many folks will return physical tickets to BMORG for recycling ...

I can haz HOPE?

Some tickets are will call. (That includes STEP, overseas burners and those who opted for will call when they bought their tickets.) Those will still be sold through STEP. STEP closes, I believe, August 7. So, there's a month and a few days left for hope.

Hey Doctor Pancakes, I think you should have lots of hope!

As the tickets go out some will enter the community through friends and craigslist etc. Some of the people in STEP will get theirs from that source, and with so many attendees coming from o/s there will be tickets still coming into STEP.

There is still more than a month of STEP to go.

Don't give up. Never give up.

Selling a ticket above face value is not illegal. I wish in this case it was, but it's not. You can flag them in the hope that somehow you get it removed, but there is no guarantee as there is no specific CL policy against it. Even CL themselves are vague on the subject.. not really saying one way or another.. except to turn it back to the community.

"Scalping - even where legally permitted, ticket scalping is widely resented, and tickets being resold over face value will tend to get flagged for removal."

Many users will flag posts scalping tickets or popular gift items for way over face value."

Other content prohibitions are set forth in guidelines for particular categories or services on craigslist and all such prohibitions are expressly incorporated into these TOU as stated in section 1 above. Craigslist does not require illegality to flag things they don't approve.

They are under no requirement to support scalping.

That should read "Craigslist users do not require illegality to flag things they don't approve."

Craigslist doesn't flag anything. The users do.

It's more complicated than that.
At a point they determine, cl gets involved.

From the TOS:
Craigslist has gotten real vague about this policy now. It use to be cut and dry, do not post tickets over the face value. This was less than a year ago. It does seem that they do listen to people who flag scalper postings. Yesterday one facebook post about a san diego scalper on cl sent a wave of flaggers and it got removed.

It would seem that Craigslist is purposefully allowing the community who reads it to police its own grey areas. I can't say I mind.

so true. if people weren't willing to pay more than face value, we wouldn't have a problem.

my bigger question is.... is BMorg releasing more tickets to STEP and when? and how much!?!?! only 60 days left and people are still trying to get tickets...

No news yet about what the new population cap means for STEP, but any info will be all over these boards if/when it exists. In the meantime, any lurkers who aren't already subscribed to the Jack Rabbit Speaks email newsletter would be well-served to join. It's been nothing but helpful to me over the years. (No one who read it--and took it seriously--was unaware that the first ticket sellout was coming in July 2011, for example.)

I'll admit I've been flagging SF Bay Area CL scalpers in my spare time for days now.

There is a certain satisfaction in seeing "This post has been flagged for removal" come up after a while. I't seems as though there is some CL background process that waits for a certain number of flaggings before the post is taken down, and obviously there are other flaggers out there as I've seen posts "Flagged for removal" before I have had a chance to flag it myself.

I am not sure if this is really doing any good. I doubt any of the scalpers who are removed go on to re-post their tix for face value. All I might be doing is pushing those sellers on to eBay where they can profit from other peoples desperation without dealing with this flagging mechanism.

Glastonbury tickets have the attendee's photo and name printed directly on the ticket and I would love to see that scheme adopted by Burning Man to ensure buyers actually intend to use the tickets themselves, rather than profit from our community.

For me, this isn't what's stressing me out- I'm sure there will be people looking for tickets all the way up to the day before...
For me it's that it's been 22 days since the blog told us to "stay tuned to JRS" for an announcement about any tickets..... since then we've been watching and waiting with baited breath and still no announcements....
If there aren't going to be any more tickets released because we want to be careful of the headcount and max capacity, that's totally fine- just tell us that instead of keeping us waiting....

I think it's possible to do good with flagging (within the terms of a website's standards, yada yada yada). Yes, they can take their tickets elsewhere; of course they can. But I think it sends a message to scalpers about what Burners want: tickets at face value. We're not easy. We're stubborn. And scalpers should know that about us. Burn tickets are not Madonna tickets. And there comes a point at which the value of a ticket drops significantly (about a week before the event, many folks give up--the same can not be said for a concert ticket, which requires no preparation to use). So there comes a point at which there is a slight shift, after which a scalper who has held out for top dollar could conceivably find themselves left holding an unused ticket. We're heard of it happening last year after the first sellout.

Maybe the more annoying & time-consuming it is to unload a pair of tickets the more scalpers might think twice about doing it with this event. Like most burglars, scalpers don't want a challenge. They just want to profit quickly and move on.
