Stringed instruments on the Playa

Post by Fixxer » Sun Jun 07, 2015 7:00 am

Howdy yall, Fixxer of Rootpile camp here. We are a camp that plays Bluegrass music, so we have lots of gitfiddles around. If you are bringing your stringed instrument baby to the playa, remember that its VERY dry out there, be sure and get an in-instrument humidifier. I am an experienced luthier and decided I will bring some tools this year in case anyone has problems that need dealt with, I can deal with most basic problems I think, unless you completely break off your neck or something!! Well even that if it's a cheapie lol. I'll have extra strings and s basic parts and stuff to keep you going. Come see us! Fixxer

What a great gift, Fixxer! And on top of offering great music, too. AND I learned a new word from this post. Cool.

I went on several expeditions to find Rootpile last year but was never successful. When are your most active times?
When he lights his streetlamp, it is as if he brought one more star to life, or one flower.
When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.
That is a beautiful occupation.

I agree with BoyScoutGirl--Fixxer, such an awesome gift!

Plus, I'm happy to hear about the bluegrass scene -- know there is at least one other person wanting to know BSG's question about active times. :)

Also, I hope you don't mind me asking some repair questions before getting to the playa ,but... my partner showed me a cheap bowed string instrument that he brought to the playa (some kind of obscure asian instrument?). The strings and bow are covered in this slippery playa dust and it's not clear how to clean them--they stopped making sound after he played once on the side for a wedding/gathering. Any tips on how to make this kind of thing better?

Thanks!
