Ukulele Care on the playa?

I was wondering if anyone had tips for taking care of my new but loved stringed instrument in the playa so it doesn't disintegrate slowly, or whatever happens to infiltrating dust.

The guy from the blue grass camp, rootpile? I'm not sure, is a stringed instrument fixer dude (or whatever the single word for that is) and has offered to help folks with that sort of thing.

I understand that a damp sponge in the case will help to keep the instrument from drying out and cracking.
