Post by mulister » Thu Aug 16, 2018 6:14 am

Whats up guys

one week to go, counting down, so excited and cant wait for that

so we burners gotta a very friend of us that wants to go but his wife has been keeping him on a tight leash

we are seeking for a good excuse so then he can come alone and join us

she knows what burning man is, which makes even more tricky, if she goes like "why are you getting away now of all times"

we wonder you can help us out with some crazy idea

ps: girls dont get mad on us, just a wonder , we know that will not ever happen

cheers

Well you could use your personality to get rid of her.

Yea. Asking for a 'friend'. What's wrong with the truth?

As a reasonable adult with a reasonable adult partner, I can't see why this would be an issue.

...talk to her?

This topic has come up on ePlaya. You can search husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend and go, going, without, etc.

I would frame it as a spirit quest. Even if that is not the intent it becomes that. Have her watch:
and read the census:

Maybe she will decide to go one day.

Ummm, why does he need to lie to her? Tell her the truth, explain the logistics, and set their personal ground rules. It's not hard.

I'm going without my husband for the second time this year. Which means I'm ditching him with kid duty for 2 weeks with no assistance. He is fine with it. In exchange, at some point he will be going on a short trip without me. All's fair.

I'm giving this a nudge over to the Q&A board, since that's a better fit for general event-related questions.

The other people who've replied have said it pretty well. It sounds like your friend is a little doomed. He's either trapped in a terrible relationship and he and his buddies need to plan and scheme to find a way for him to escape and get rid of her, or his friends are so interested in partying with him that they're cool with tanking his relationship. Nothing on a message board (or at Burning Man) is likely to fix that. Of course, it's also entirely possible that he doesn't want to go, and is just blaming it on her so he doesn't look bad to his friends ("oh I'd love to go, I'd be all over that, but my wife won't let me..."). Good luck to your friend, sounds like he needs it.

He's not going to be able to sneak off to Burning Man and come home looking like he's been on any other vacation. At minimum, his hair will be a bit fried, his skin will be tan, his cuticles will be ripped up, his voice will be more hoarse, and dust as fine as baby powder will be embedded in everything he owns.

He will probably have bike pedal scrapes on his shins. If he stays in a tent, he may get bruises on his knees. And if he eats like many folks on the playa, he will also have lost 5 lbs. These are very typical after-effects. An attempt to lie about where he's been will just make things worse and more insulting than if he were honest.

There are many couples made of avid Burners, and patient non-Burners. He should attempt to talk to his wife about it. If she won't budge, he might as well determine what is more important: the trip, or keeping the peace with his wife.

On this board, we have seen both folks with regrets (about lost relationships), and folks who were liberated from them. I feel as though we've seen more folks who felt good about choosing the Burn over a stifling relationship . . . but that's probably because people with huge regrets don't linger here.

Only your friend can really know what's in his heart. Feel free to point him to this thread. :)

Any partner that keeps a tight leash is a partner that needs to go.

I think I speak for everyone who ever attended Burning Man, no, she doesn't know what Burning Man is. 8)

Maybe your "friend" doesn't want to go and is using the wife excuse to shut you up.
