Does Green Tortoise Bus Still Run to BRC?

Post by scriptorpress » Thu Jan 27, 2022 6:51 am

Hey guys,

So my wife and I are planning to return to BRC after some years, and we are now coming from Boston (we were out in Seattle and Portland for some years), so a long trek there.

We're not planning to drive, but to fly out West, and were wondering if the Green Tortoise Bus & camp site still exist at BRC? We used that my wife's first year (2004), and it was a great way for a newbie to get acclimated.

If not, is there some equivalent alternative (transport to BRC and campsite with food/water)?

Thanks for letting me know! :)

I doubt it, the org has been finally cracking down on plug n plays.

Check out the Burner Express from Reno. I don't think anything has been posted since 2019 but should be soon and I doubt anything new has been added.
Everyone is so politically fucked up that they're segregating themselves in the name of equal rights and liberation.

I did email them, no answer yet.

I didn't know "plug and play" was a thing. I found it a really useful way to bring my wife first time, without the pressure of worrying about water and food. Met a lot of nice people. Did our bookstore at Center Camp. Sorry they don't do it anymore, as it was a nice experience. Only used it once, but good memories of it.

The Burner Express looks interesting too. But it will be more complex now, to find a camp to attach to. Guess that's part of the deal.

Thanks for your input, everyone :)

Your best method for finding a camp is to become involved in your regional. You can also read through the list of 2019 theme camps to see if there is one with a similar mission to yours, and contact them.

After the 2014 burn, on ePlaya and with the tale of Sherba Beth, a great uproar among burners about hotel/concierge/PnP camps began. In 2018 a cultural direction setting committee was formed. There are specific changes starting to unfold from that. The Humano camp was not invited back in 2019, and the wall of RV camps were way down in 2019.

A camp like Green Tortoise would have to get its own SRP from the BLM and pay a 3% of revenues fee. The BLM and the BMORG have agreed to not place camps that need an SRP.

Your best way of NOT finding a camp is also doing the whole “Radical Self Reliance” thing.

Yeah, it’s a long haul from Bastan, but it can be done.

Think outside the box.

I've gotten to BRC from Boston before, several times. Lot easier when we were out on the West Coast for some years.

But the need to be back is strong, missing it all. I've been in good camps, and ones that broke down in awful fighting.

Still kicking off the rust of the whole long long stretch of work it takes to arrive. Gathering info, getting up to speed.

This all means a whole lot to me. I want to get me and KD back and do our part in welcoming the City, and ourselves by chance too, back to the playa!

Funny: people have actually heard of BM these days. Back in '99, my first time, weren't hardly a blip on the landscape. Times move on lol :P

Just a funny little observation… you’re definitely from the east coast, I knew it because you said “OUT in Seattle and Portland”.
If someone says they’re on the west coast, it tells you where they are.
If they say OUT on the west coast, it also tells you they’re from the east.
They’re never just here… they’re “out” here.
