Figured out where I'm getting water on the new-to-me route to BRC from my new home in Oregon.

We put the breakfast bin together with oatmeal packets and pre-measured snack ziplocs of pancake mix and the miscellaneous dried fruit and nuts we put in our oatmeal. I remembered chia seeds this time!

We also went through the tea and beverages drawers that live under the sink in my camper bus but live at the bottom of my pantry outside Burning Man. We added more caffeine and herbal teas, a bottle of stevia drops, and did miscellaneous neatening up.

This week we cleaned the bus inside and out, fixing some little things that had gone wrong since last year. Especially the window pane that some vandals threw a rock through. They hit four vehicles in the storage yard where I keep the bus. :-( Fortunately it happened this summer during the dry season, so no rain damage. The yard contacted us right away about it.

I also tested a few zillion batteries still in dusty ziplocs from last year, and dealt with a couple of situations where I hadn't removed batteries from things resulting in leakage and corrosion. Lost a bike headlight that way-- one of the contacts corroded completely off the internal removable battery holder. Argh. This year, must remember to remove all batteries from things after the event!!

Polished up the figjam cooler
Had a hitch installed on the Subaru
Bought a cargo carrier (I’m getting fancy)
Made art for camp
Clothes sorted

The one thing I’m procrastinating on is a food plan.
Oh my god, it's HUGE!

Made an outlet board with DIN rail electrical meeter so that camp mates can charge their rechargeable equipment and hopefully self monitor to stay under 10 amps consumption. Next up is rewiring the DPDT contactor in the main power distribution panel to a light sensor switch so that the charging station is only functional when the sun is up and the solar panels are producing power.

Spiffy!

Btw, no matter how much education and training on amps, watts and Wh … the Playa always builds a better idiot to fuck it all up. I guarantee it!

What I do on the farm here with my spot solar spots … automotive fuse block feeds from the battery to a dc-dc converter that will limit the max current. 120W should be plenty juice so match a 10A slow fuse …

On the DPDT - I like to use garden solar lights and replace the LED with the relay. Simple job to make it work. Just make sure the solar light battery has enough juice to last the night powering the relay. A 20mA relay is probably needed. Digikey has loads of them.

I'm going to keep that garden light method in mind.
You might remember last year I built a timer switch in to the main distribution panel of the solar power system I built. The purpose was a this or that circuit so I could take power away from the non absolutely essential interactivity and direct all of it to the welding circuit to power the welder. That turned out to be completely unnecessary when I daisy chained the big system to my travel trailer system and the power support feature ran the welder with out issue. However--- The timer switch was too attractive and at one point the sweetest couple in the world in camp plugged their phones in to the timer controlled outlet and spun the timer. Power was lost instantly to all interactive elements of camp. The music screeched to a halt in the bar. I began to feel like I was going to have a heart attack. People were calling my name. As the stress rose I chased down the offending timer, forced it back to zero and normal life resumed with a bit of a need for a pinch of whisky. Good times. Users are good troubleshooters even if they deliver the occasional heart stopping moment.

Too early? I think not.

I'm starting work on my solar power system this week and laying out the components I already have and figuring out what I still need.

Is this a thread hi-jack? I only changed 1 number.

It would be great if you could start a new thread for this so that 2024 would have its own. I would do so, except I am taking a year off this year!

You may have a point. I may have just caused some kind of thread paradox like going back In time to prevent your younger self from doing something stupid. But if your successful then it never happens and your future self has no reason to go back in time.

Is threadiquette a word?

I'll leave this up to the wise and powerful Mods.

I picked up some solar equipment today for my figjam cooler. I've never worked with solar before and will be my first attempt at building such a cooler.

Just ordered 2 x 300 AH Lithium batteries to go with my solar. I should be making sparks and smoke in no time.
