Renting a U-Haul van

Post by InGearX » Tue Feb 11, 2025 5:21 am

Does anyone have experience renting a U-Haul van? I'm renting one to move our camp things for a regional. Just want to know if there are any tips, tricks and what to watch out for?

I hope they will not care that I will have it for 6 days but drive only 200 mi with it

And I think most importantly I got to call my credit cards and to find out which one of them covers the rental accident insurance

Any advice is much appreciated

I believe it's possible when booking/renting the equipment to specify the amount of time you anticipate using it. You want to make sure that you communicate that in advance, because the consequences can be a huge problem. If they don't get it back when they expect it, some locations are kind enough to give you a call where they either check in on when you want to bring it back, or simply tell you that if the vehicle isn't back by X, it will be reported as stolen. You don't want to miss those calls, and you definitely don't want to be caught driving a vehicle that's been reported as stolen.
