Re: One Item for BM a Day
I was distracted by other adventures in June and so I've been falling behind. Reading all your updates has kicked my butt into Playa-Prep Overdrive! This weekend I:
-Finished making my husband's pirate coat (a 4-month project)
-Made 2 quick costume pieces for myself; a sparkly daytime dress, and a long cuddle-plush skirt for night.
-took inventory of the costume closet and started pulling things out into a "to go" pile
-Bought a 2nd Max Cold cooler to use for dry ice
-Tested out a fried chicken recipe that we plan to take along
-Updated my master packing list for this year
Whew!

I'm starting to make some banners for our camp and was wondering if you had to get any special tools to install the grommets?

Re: One Item for BM a Day
You can pretty much buy the grommet punches with a selection of about 12 grommets at any fabric store, and probably at the craft stores, too. Under $5 for the lot.

Thanks Fishy! I've seen the grommet sets but my boyfriend figured I could also just buy the grommets without the craft tools and just hammer them in. If they are as cheap as you say then I would prefer just getting the proper tools.

Nice one on the coat, PurpleMyst (I think that's close to how much time we spent on mine a few years back… worth every minute of it). And nice banner, EmilyD! Good work on the pendants, FeetOfClay, it's not a bad thing to be busy on.
For me, the weekend had lots of this...

I silk screened a bunch of t-shirts for campmates. I did far from a perfect job, but I'm happy with the results and the occasional smudgy bits add a little character. Beyond that there was also painting (I worked on some deli counter detail, my gf and campmates worked on the big signs), and the deli counter awning got finished up.

Scrubbed the playa dust out of the bike gears. It runs much smoother now. Took another 7km ride. May take another this evening.
Also, my fuzzy penguin suit arrived today!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Just got my RZ Masks in the mail today. Pretty stoked on how well they fit how well it's made. Time to see how well it works with playa dust (i read on another forum they work fine.. but I'd rather be the judge of that.)
Tomorrow I have a date with the army surplus store.
EDIT: Oh ya, today I also purchased some kick ass glow paint from glowinc.com. It's the same paint they used in that blackberry commercial with all the glowing bikes (free advertisment for the glow company paid by RIM.) I plan on making a bunch of glowing accessorries, also my gf wants to paint her bike (mine is a John Deere.. no way I'm painting that bad boy.) I will also be painting my gnome staff, so Norm the Gnome will stick out like a sore thumb. He gets lonely up there.

Squeezed into my bike shorts this morning, tuned her up and went for a quick 5 mile ride. Will gradually increase distance. So far my crotch and ass are in good shape.
Also, did a bunch of prep yesterday including setting up my first section of my trash fence:
Sat out in the sun to get some color.

Today's item over here...unfortunate discovery that something is wrong with the VainVan's transmission. We're doing 1st pass approach of replacing the solenoid, $200, but it may need an entirely new transmission, $2500!!! This weekend we're going over the Donner Summit to Reno (for ArtCar Fest) so hopefully, the new solenoid will be enough for now. Not sure we can get away with not replacing the tranny until after the Playa, sure hope so.
If any of you live near Reno, you might want to check out our ArtCar Fest...in Reno for the very first time this weekend. The first night's event is all about Burning Man Mutant Vehicles: http://artcarfest.com. If you plan to stop by please give me a holler, I'd love to meet some of you eplaya folks in 3D!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Any one else here old enough to remember Garbage candy? (I don't think that was the name...) It came in a little plastic garbage can and had sweet tarts type candy shaped as fish heads, old shoes, and other stuff. One of the ridiculous glories of my childhood. Novelty candy just isn't as good as it was back then...Savannah wrote:Band-aids, bottle caps, glow sticks, cash, bottle rockets, matches, & small bags of contraband.VultureChow wrote:Thanks. Got my mail from in-Ticketing. My face upon viewing the contents of the package:

The tears are mostly because I'm a pansy about spicy candies. Mostly
Also, finished hemming the muslin on the dozen dust masks I'll be bringing as gifts.
Also-also made what ought to be my last online purchases: watch batteries, 2x string of LED lights, collapsible traveling mug/bowl, compass. The very few remaining non-water, non-food purchases can be sourced locally at thrift shops.
