Couple more small clothing items and a pack of 10 3M 9211 disposable face masks.

Watched a few more 'storm' videos and we decided to leave our mess tent at home and just set up everything in our main tent (240+ sq ft, shouldn't be a hardship spacewise.) Figure it will be simpler in the long run since we've already got shade for the main tent covered anyway.

Maizie wrote:Meant to pick up metallic fabric for a costume we had planned.

Ended up also picking up fabric for four other costumes that just randomly occurred to me while I was there.

Apparently, I'll be busier than expected between now and the 17th!
I too was drawn to the fabric store even though I only have time to expand my light-up coat this year, (and I already have enough fabric to cover all of Black Rock City!). I found a wild abstract flame printed fleece on sale for $4 per yard!!! That was worth it. It looked like the sparkly fabric area was quite depleted. We have a lot of local burners!

I'd be further along in my prep if we hadn't gone camping last week and...tragically my husband had a terrible accident. He's now not able to come to the Playa. He was burned in a freak accident where one person was mixing a cocktail using Bacardi 151 and the receiver of said cocktail accidentally dropped a lit cigarette into it. The resulting fireball explosion jumped across the bar and hit my poor boy on the side of his face (and burned hair and eyebrows of other bystanders). He's got 1st and 2nd degree burns there and almost into 3rd degree on his hand. Luckily for all of us, one of the first EMT Burners happened to be nearby and jumped on my husband putting the flames out. His injuries would be so much worse if not for that guy's knowledge and action. Hell, the whole damn forest could have easily ignited. So listen and learn bartenders...be VERY careful with high proof alcohol and keep fire FAR AWAY from the booze and fumes. It was a terrible lesson for these people to learn and my dear spouse is suffering because of it.

Emily I'm so sorry. Kiss him and cuddle him. It's so painful. AND no burning man for him. That's really awful.

Today, back to expanding my light-up coat.

Thanks for your kind words. He's improving faster than I would have expected but he still cannot come to Black Rock. The conditions are too harsh and he really needs to stay out of the sun. At first I said "we're definitely not going to Burning Man" but he insisted I should still go. Our camp needs me :-) and frankly I need the camp and to see some spectacular art.

Plus...it's okay to say it... he's not coming to Burning Man because he already was a burning man himself. Humor definitely helps the healing process!

Egads, EmilyD, that's crazy! I'm sorry to hear about the injury, but hooray for the rockstar who knew what to do and was in the right place at the right time.

I've been crunching through lots in the last couple days. Finished all my new ziggurat parts, worked on my new bike racks, picked up all the conduit I'll need for both the new bike racks as well as the shade structure expansion I'm planning. I also grabbed a bunch of lumber for a couple projects, got more laser-able rubber for making rubber stamps, a bunch more playa bins (replacing some I broke plus just getting more), and got a replacement vac-sealer. Our old one worked great for many years, but finally died. I also booked time on a bunch of CNC machines for jobs I hope to have ready in the next week or so.

Did a test pack of the new (to us) vehicle for Burning Man. We have the space to do it - but there's not enough space for bigger things as I anticipated, and a lot more little weird nooks and crannies to shove things into. So we'll be reworking that a bit, or investing in a roofrack, or both.

My parents are downsizing because my dads retiring.. so they're going to move. They came a dropped off a bunch of old stuff they've been holding onto, and one thing was this really old keyboard.. a Yamaha with all the cool settings to play as any instrument, etc. Kinda like the one Ross has on friends where he can make all the stupid noises. Anyways, I just started teaching myself how to play proper piano with youtube videos. This week I learned all the notes, how to read some sheet music, and now I'm learning different chords. It's pretty fun, and my gf is totally supportive, even tho she has to listen to my sub par practicing.

Massive boxes of Amazon orders coming in. Does a box with thirty items count as one item?

...Did I really need to order half of this stuff? I don't know. I think I need it. Year four, and I'm just as clueless as my first...

With all the work you are doing on that ziggurat, it looks like you're camp has you doing all the work by yourself! Can't wait to see it.

I really appreciate the support people, thanks so much.

Today, picked up parts to try a mini version of the cooler someone posted on FigJam's thread. Here's hoping 3rd time's the charm.

Also picked up giant mattress bags to cover the trailer bed in. This goes a long way towards keeping Playa dust out of the trailer fabrics. And...one of my most important playa items (for my whore's baths) BABY WIPES! Last night I ordered yet another in my search for the perfect trailer potty deodorizer. I also canceled my reservation at the Sand's in Reno for post Playa. A local friend is letting me stay with them instead. Now it's down to the studio for some sewing!

Got Pottie PA final tested, got Poop Mobile's ties rotated and aligned. Had scheduled this afternoon to can pickled carrots and string beans from the garden to take out there but "other people's stuff" fucked that idea hard.

Went to buy a parasol (sun umbrella,) for my gf. Saw a wicked deal on kijiji for an antique one for 20$. Smoking deal for an authentic Asian rice paper parasol. So I go pick it up and it was a more seasoned couple selling it (60+ years old,) and they said it was from his parents wedding day. The picture didn't have anything next to it for size tho, so when they pulled it out, it was this massive thing that's over 6 ft in diameter, but still really light (due to the rice paper,) and has quite a strong wooden frame.

It was a steal of a pick up. My only concerns are, because it's so big, it may get damaged by large gusts.. so I'm in the process of making some sort of strap for it so I can put it on my back like a samurai sword when not in use, or when one of the many wind storms hit.

Sounds like a treasure. Playa winds will probably kill it. The dry heat and lack of humidity can damage the wood/bamboo/rice paper if it has lived in a humid environment. I have a little blue painted fabric and bamboo one you can have if you drop by my camp. It was MOOP from several years ago, but very nice.

Sorry, I have a thing for old fragile things. My paper parasol I got in Japan is sad now, and I was always careful with it.
