* Bike lock (the U-lock from my school days was curiously corroded, as though exposed to some sort of . . . vicious alkali dust)
* Electrolyte tablets, for on-the-go (tub o' powder to be left back at camp)

Re: One Item for BM a Day
All three items were from REI. It is the "Camp Chef" square cooking iron, $16. Weirdly for REI, it is not overpriced. (I like the store, and their folding cot and camp stool, etc, are also high quality, but they are a little hit and miss with prices--which made spending a gift card a little tricky. Buying jerky or sunscreen, for example, would be a terrible value there.)tatonka wrote:Where do you find the sandwich press? The square sandwich press I was eying on Amazon (but decided not to get) varied between $15 and $19.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
So now I'm getting all fancy... the Yacht has two separate electric systems, an alternator and a battery used for starting, and another alternator and deep-cycle battery & inverter for the lights, sound, etc. I have an electric solenoid that automatically connects them both together for max charging power while underway and isolating the starting battery while off. There's also a manual switch.
I think I'm gonna wire the solenoid to the engine's oil pressure sensor... that way, it won't connect the house and starting batteries until/unless the engine is actually running (and making oil pressure, tripping the switch). That way if the house battery is excessively drained it won't make it hard to start when in "automatic switching" mode and won't subject the deep-cycle battery to engine starting loads.
MORE wiring.... jeez... the thing looks clean and empty inside, but under the floor it's looking like a cross between the Space Shuttle and a broken robot.

First day on the new job - trial by fire figuratively and literally.
It was awkward broaching the subject but I prefaced it with how much planning needed to be done and reminded my boss that I did mention it prior to applying for the position. My vacation request was approved.
It looks like I just may be seeing you wonderful people on the playa this year.
My next day off is Friday when I'll pull my stuff out of the shed, setting up my tent and MH and taking inventory.
Cool swag, what a talented bunch.... and Capt, I'm in awe of your mechanical/electrical prowess (even though it's way over my head).

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

If you make another run into the container or harbor freight make sure to stop and vist on the way.

Miss Goddammette is happy, I ordered her some of that pre-wired, ready to go EL wire so she can be all glowy.
I wish I could afford to do a three-string sequence rippling water light effect on the Land Yacht hull sides, but it looks like I'd be in it at least $600. I think I'll pay the utility bills and groceries instead.

Just received the 10x12 tarp that will be the floor of my monkey hut. Things are coming together

Finished making paper beads, got the Dye Mobile all done and ready, and putting the finishing touches
on the Giant Kaleidoscope. And started on yet another art project to play on in our camp.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
So today I found the perfect little Persian rug to fulfill an idea that I had today also.... one day and everything has changed...
I bought one of the new 4 stroke, quiet stand up scooter things. Its quiet unlike those which are so loathed, but in order to avoid being among the slightly less loathed, I have always planned to mutate it. maybe a horseshoe crab or a low flat animal... but today I looked at that just assembled little scooter and it was obvious that its wide deck should be the base for a Magic Carpet Ride.... I'm thinking the handle comes out of a basket and might be a cobra or magic rope
So the scooter, the rug idea, a just found 2.3 x 7 foot Persian rug reproduction, a specially tuned attitude, and a Genie costume, and I've got plans for at least one trip around the playa.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
been motorcycle riding for years , all these years Ive never used any of there stuff offered to me at the motels . Well last couple years as prices got higher I started taking all they had to offer.
I dont drink coffee but in the coming chaos I could barter it for stuff
Is this stuff still good ( about a year or so old ) ?
if its still good would they make good gifts?
