I hate French. Don't have a connection wiht the language or the culture. And it's not a phonetic language. German, I'll do. I would have ended up with the Italian, also. Because there are things I like about Italy and the italian culture(s).

And despite being eplaya's designated speller, I don't spell well. I don't want to be a prescriptive grammarian, but apparently, I'll be one anyway. But anyone who relies on me for spelling is in trouble. Vowels, dipthongs and double letters seem to be my worst weak points.

Ordered a tube of Earthpaste. Basically it is a toothpaste without fluoride, glycerin, foaming agents and chemical preservatives so it is safe to swallow. Hope is as good as all the reviews say.

Knocked off a bunch of stuff from the shopping list - ranging from sunscreen to eye drops, quick and easy meals for the nights we don't have a big feast in camp, OTC meds, presciption med refills etc.

I spent a few hours inventorying the big shade structure I'm bringing for the camp's kitchen/dining area. I had to hose off a tarp that had 2012 Playa on it! Second day of practice riding my Playa bike...OOOF I'm so out of shape. I'm taking it slow and steady so I don't walk around with a sore butt in BRC.

Still need to do a final test of the shade cloth cover for my personal shade. I need to slide it over the EZ-Up frame and make sure I lined all the grommets up. Next task...final attempt at mini-evap cooler for the trailer. Fingers crossed!

First major deadline is tomorrow. Need to ship 3 boxes on Wednesday, so tonight might be an all-nighter.

One box is packed and ready. 2nd box is almost done.

The third is the problem. Need to tweak the supports for my skeleton and finish some decoration before it can be disassembled, wrapped and mailed.

Last night's project. Anyone guess what it is? I'll save you the trouble so I can pretend like everyone is interested; basically the opposite of a figjam bucket cooler. Similar elements - a couple of stainless steel inset pots and a metal bucket with a fan in the side. Idea is you fill the center pot with compressed wood pellets, light it up and then hit the fan. It should give about an hour to 2 hours of steady burn time, while throwing out HELLA heat. I tested it with some crumpled paper last night and it worked impressively well. I need to do something better than the duct tape holding the fan - I just wanted to test it and make sure my hole pattern was going to work so I kind of kludged it for now. The instructable I followed is here:

I expected them to be a little below factory spec of 2600mAh, but they are more like 500-1000, so I'm having a bit of a "what now" crisis on that front.

The good news is I have a backup plan... the bad news is the backup plan is kinda crappy (Lead acid cells)

I was searching on Internet on how I would power my big ass, queen size air mattress, until I look down at my computer’s 1000AVR uninterruptible power supply. With a fully charged UPS and decade old 400-watt inverter supporting it, I was able to inflate my bed twice in minutes. The UPS still had full charge, afterwards.

Today I updated my packing list and made a separate list of all the things left on the list. Only 11 things left to purchase and approximately 30 total to pack!

Cool idea! I definitely have stationary power covered with a couple of deep cycle batteries. My battery belt was supposed to power the lights in my wearable stuff. I think it still will, it just looks a little more like 9Ah instead of the nameplate 26Ah I was hoping for.

Got all the parts cut that I'll need for my courtyard support structure, a base for a bed, a bike box project, and a cart to support a chest freezer. Got the cart put together, and everything that needed to be routed (so no splinters/sharp corners) routed. I also picked up some additional casters and hardware I'll need for assorted playa projects. I also managed to get a bunch of stuff that's ready in the loft hauled over to storage, and then wrangled storage so that there's still a bit more space left (more bins incoming), and I was able to get the coolers out.

Some labels we'd ordered last week arrived, as did some other supplies for kitchen prep. My darling got a couple more sign designs finished, they're in the bucket for me to have printed up at the end of the week (once I finish up the stuff I'm overdue on).

As completely ludicrous as it sounds, things in Defaultia appear to be slightly ahead of schedule. So I contacted the company we're renting equipment from to see if we could bump the pickup date up without affecting our rate. He was able to hook us up, and I made arrangements with our storage company to have our crew working after-hours on Tuesday.

Tonight our camp members made 110 burritos to be frozen and eaten on playa. That was a lot of chopping! I also actually started packing. Managed to pack all my lights - half a box worth. No darkwad here.

Everything that needs to be packed (except two pairs of shorts, still in the wash) is packed. Shopping list for when I get to my parents house in Vegas is prepared. That's going to be a busy 3 days. Building a monkey hut, Figjam cooler and shopping!

this seems to be causing a lot of panic ... hoping against hope it doesn't do us like that during the week!

made me wonder how people with giant (or even small) evap ponds mitigate the risk/impact of a deluge. i'll make sure to have extra plastic to cover my little 4'x4' setup.

i travel with basic rain gear, but i will be digging out the more comprehensive gear, just in case.

Found a place in my town that sells alumniet! I just called and reserved their last 21x20, and will pick up after work. The guy I spoke said in the last 10 days they have sold hundreds and will be completely sold out soon. He said that they decided to do something different this year and post an ad on craiglist with a burning man tag and it REALLY paid off. Now we just need to decide how to configure it on our costco carport. Over the tarp I think?

Preliminary indications appear that this might be a wetter than normal year on the Playa.

My 14' Playa Dome tent will be sitting on a 20' x 20' ground tarp. If by chance we were to get a freshet, water would probably run under my dome and soak the contents.

Since I would prefer not to have to sleep on a wet floor; today, I cut a and fitted a round tarp floor for my dome that will extend 2" up and be taped to the inside of the dome walls. If it were to rain, this might keep everything inside the dome from getting completely soaked.

To keep the floor from rising with the tide, I cut 2" long sections of 4" x 4" to place around the inside edges of the fitted floor.

They are actually pretty close to waterproof.

I don't venture out when it rains anyway. I can't. You can't either.
