Re: One Item for BM a Day
Received a bag of goodies from a CORE project I'm supporting. One of the items was a set of LED gloves. They are bright. You won't have a problem seeing me coming at night
You know it's going to be a bad day when you jump out of bed and miss the floor.

Finished painting parasol #2. I almost always reach for the same colors whenever I paint... I like how it turned out. It's happy!

I love the happy colors, Phoenix!

When he puts out his lamp, he sends the flower, or the star, to sleep.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I picked up my meds, paid all the bills for the month, and got some Pedialyte cause that seemed like a good idea.
Also found out that a very good friend is going and will be with BDC this year. It's just getting more awesomer! Is that a word?

Sounds like you do the same to your list as I do to mine - everything in red font until packed. I start changing colors on Monday after the company leaves.Asquared wrote:everything on my list has turned from red font to black, except food/grocery items to get in reno.

Tested the new one burner stove, tea kettle, piezo lighter and a bag of Mountain House. Everything worked great.

I do something similar! Everything in regular font, and change to bold if not packed.geospyder wrote:Sounds like you do the same to your list as I do to mine - everything in red font until packed. It works best if you have to have your eyes on something in the bin, or else you don't get to check it off. And then you pack the list itself in a readily accessible place, not only so you can shop on autopilot, but also so that when you whip awake at 2am in some tiny motel in the middle of nowhere, you can see that yes indeed, you did pack the Wild Pomegranate body wash . . .
Body wash is so much easier to take mini baths with than bar soap, for anyone who hasn't thought about that yet.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Actually was productive after work and got my camelback/backpack put together with the usual chapstick, goggles, protein bar etc etc etc. Got the "Wheel of Remorse" finished for Dye with Dignity so when you are waiting in line to dye a silk scarf, you can be made to do something naughty. Started lining up the bins and laughing at all the weird crap I have bought during the year. Now to relax!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Brought home this bike from my father-in-law yesterday! He builds all kinds of bikes as a hobby, and this was his birthday/Christmas/wedding gift to me
Then I spent last night adding monkeylights, light up handlebar streamers, a normal rear light, and EL-wire to it. This thing is going to be utterly ridiculous, and I love it
I also have my partner's old beat-up panniers that I can attach (and yes, I checked that they fit on the rack). Doing all of this at home rather than trying to install the lights and stuff on the playa was definitely the right call. I figure I'll take my normal front light unless the bike shop has something cheap-ish that's made for seeing the ground rather than for being seen.
THEN instead of going to sleep at a reasonable hour, I re-packed a lot of the crap for the container truck. I thiiiink it'll all fit... somehow. With enough of those vacuum-ziploc thingies. Discovered to my dismay that my big roll of gaffer tape has gone missing, so to Amazon I went.
Tonight's plan is to wash a bunch of laundry so it doesn't smell like the perfume the store used (seriously, who does that?), and to go to the hardware store for some extra monkey hut PVC and assorted tools. If I'm lucky, they might have some stakes that would let me not have to make a HD trip.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Found my favorite granola/protein bar on sale for $1/bar. That's still expensive per unit weight but I love these things so I'm willing to pay.
Also, Pedialyte powder, lemon juice, and 8x12" nails + washers.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I knocked off my $ store list and a couple of the supermarket items:
Window reflector sunshade (if the size is right I'll go back for more and save the money I spent on reflectex in the past)
Window cleaner
Can opener
Vinyl gloves (I'll be breaking ice cold chocolate bars near the end of the week to hand out to unsuspecting passerbys)
2 pairs of cheap sunglasses
handheld mirror (I may actually shave once or twice this year)
Lemon juice
Famous last words: I think all I have left is my food shopping.

MV tail & side lights installed.. Sound system done and packed..

There's no reason you can't do a bit of both. Some folks are all over the map with their levels of food pageantry.Asquared wrote:since my packing list appears to be complete, i am spending some of today reviewing all the food threads, so i can plan out my food.

Make sure you have plenty of easy things for just in case though, including portable snacks with protein. When you leave camp, have a good snack (and some lights, and your goggles . . . and . . .and) with you, 'cause you'll think "Oh, I'm just going down the street to see what that . . . thing is." But then a giant meowing wheeled Fish stops by and offers you a ride to Narnia and suddenly you're 2 miles from camp and 8 hours have passed.

Sardines, cup o noodles, spaghetti o's, cheese whiz, crackers, canned fruit, canned soup, dry spaghetti and a jar of spaghetti sauce, pickles, beer, dry cereal and powdered milk, pkgs of instant oatmeal, trail mix, big pkg of cheap power bars, canned chili beans with meat, wash, rinse, repeat.....
I don't go to Burning Man to cook, eat or pose for pictures.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Kind of cliche, but I'm pretty happy with my new cup. Classic mason jar styling, 20oz capacity, double-wall insulated to keep the heat out and captive straw to keep the playa out.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I knocked out 99% of my food list. I found tuna in a can that doesn't have to be drained (on sale to boot) and individual serving portioned 3-minute pasta that I don't need to worry about straining (the bag does it). There are three pouches in the box so I'll reserve/reuse the pasta water in another container.
What I didn't find was shelf-stable milk that wasn't vanilla, chocolate or strawberry flavored.
I'm going to start packing/organizing/documenting the totes. So far I have one for food, one for clothes, one for utility and one for hygiene/incidentals along with a big-ass leather bag I picked up at a garage sale I use as my tool bag.
I am down to a handful of items on my non-Reno shopping list.
I did my second iteration of Meet and Greet treat. It benfited greatly by the addition of maple syrup and cayenne. I'm happy with it. Now I will store it for a week and see how it holds up (and make sure I don't keel over or something like that).
