Hell yes you should go!

Be sure you have the basics covered: a warm place to sleep at night, enough water, and enough food.

Heck, I went with a girlfriend a few years ago and we didn't even have a shade structure. We rented a mini-van and that ended up being our camp. (We did stick some solar lights around the outside though to dress it up, heh) ... You can always seek shade at center camp.

If you trust yourself to keep yourself alive in the desert for 5 days in extreme temps with 30-50 thousand other people... then come on down. It's a blast... and either way, a unique experience. If worse comes to worse, you can leave... but you might just fall in love with the playa like the rest of us fools.
