Got a bike yesterday off Craigs list for $50!! its perfect and in great shape. Just needs to be tricked out.
I struck out at the thrift store yesterday, other than a couple skirts for normal wear, but will hit another one later on in the week. We have some cool vintage stores in town but my budget won't even go that high. gotta stick with the thrift stores. Drug out the tent today and realized it has wayyyyy too much netting. I've been eyeballing one on Amazon, an instant tent by Coleman that has all the windows that zip up, so I was hoping that would do a good job of keeping most of the dust out. It dropped $10 so I'm gonna break down and get it tonight.
oh, i have soooo much to do!

12 pairs of socks, tent stakes, solar LED spotlights, SPF50 and tighty whiteys.

Got a package delivered, boatload of disposable cameras for project B, Sic Pup almost got himself a UPS man, crazy bastard.

Did some work on project A, progressing nicely (and on schedule).

Loaded a bunch of stuff into the RV which felt GREAT!

I also scrubbed down the RV bathroom, fridge and kitchen (again), ick. I always clean it after the burn but residual dust in the carpet and furniture and all the friendly spiders making webs made it in need of another cleaning. It always makes me laugh at myself when I'm polishing everything spotless because I know it will soon be covered in dust again and I won't even notice the dust at all out there. =D

I still have a bunch of canned foods that are good and usable for the burn and some new items that are shelf stable, plus some club soda, mixer, clamato type stuff.

It totally reminds me of "nesting" when you're pregnant and about to have your baby! I LOVE stocking the RV!

Cleaned out all the drawers and started filling em with new stuff...so much fun. Solar lights packed, bunch of sarongs and clothes that I won't wear until I'm there. Washed and repacked the pots and pants. Work, work, work, work!

I tried today. Then, it was 112 so I just gave up in despair. :( I need to work the graveyard shift to get anything done.
Suck it.

My tricycle came today. It is beautiful. I need to trick it out though and light it up. Better get that EL asap, only so many days left!

Kinda broke right now. Any ideas on tricking this out without me spending money? Ideas are welcome.

Dude that heat is insane. I'd so be napping during the day and working by lantern at night. NO freaking way would I be getting anything done in the heat! I'm a total heat wuss. =D

Do you have any type of LED keychains or flashlights that are not extremely heavy and some rope/string/glue/epoxy? You could try to tie/glue a bunch of keylights or flashlights on.
If you have lights with clips you could try clipping on to areas that are not mechanical :|

You could also look into making a bunch of LED "throwies". For just a few bucks you can make a whole bunch of magnetic LEDs to stick all over the bike (assuming it has a ferrous frame).

Strings of battery powered LEDs are pretty cheap.. like $5-$7 for a string of 30 with a battery pack off of Ebay. That would be your cheapest way to go. If you wanna go fancier, get a plug and play EL wire kit from like Coolneon. A 10' section will run you about $30/shipped and a 20' section will run you about $45/shipped. Use coupon code "JRS" when you checkout for a 10% discount. If you're going the EL wire route, get the super thick, bright stuff :D

Went to Kohl's to find a carry-on. I got a gift card a couple of years ago and figured I could get something kinda nice with its help. Or not, because jeez-oh-pete luggage is crazy expensive!!! The one I wanted was $239 AFTER the Kohl's discount. But I got something I like alright.

Then I went to Sportsmen's Warehouse for my Platypus bottles. Mm...redneck camping store...

Image

Resisted the battery-operated socks.

Headed back home with the suitcase to start the pack pile. Good-bye, living room floor. I miss you!

Hated all my clothes I looked through, started five new things and finished none.

Packed up a box of foodstuffs to mail to one camper, and goodies for Raiders Night to mail to another. Did win these boots
Image

NO MORE BUYING CLOTHES. I don't like or wear brown, but I liked these alright...so I will have my Vibrams and these and my red pirate hooker boots. If nothing else to wear...

Whaaaaaaaaaat?? Nono.. go to TJ Maxx/Ross/Cosco/Sams for your luggage. Last time I was there, TJ Maxx had a wall full of carry on's for like $30-$40.

I wanted a nicer one, in hopes that it wouldn't break (hence I need a new one, been through two in as many years). And it came out to about $50, with my gift card. Hence Kohl's. But yeah, if I hadn't found one there, TJ Maxx would've been my next stop.

Agree with JS! My boyfriend got a very nice durable carry-on from Burlington Coat factory for about $20+tax. TJ Maxx had very similar styles as well.

Received finger lights, face masks and el wire yesterday. Also picked up another storage box, plate and wet wipes. Eleven more wakes ups and I head to the Playa!

There is some anti-throwies due to MOOP factor - pretty sure there was even a thread here about it.

I have freaking sold everything in my Ebay! Pretty rad - got stiffed on some, did well enough on others. Juuuuust enough to cover all the shit I've been buying there.

Finished scaling up the coat pattern and sewed a mockup from a bed sheet. Looks good so now I'll make my second attempt at a playa coat.

Amazing how much quicker sewing a pattern goes the second time around. Sewing the mockup bodice and sleeves took about 15 minutes while the first time it took hours. But then cotton is way easier to work with than brocade.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Started the veggie base broth for my turkey stew, will roast the turkeys this weekend (2 - 24 pound turkeys!) Have the noodles that get added on the playa. Will also make and freeze the chilis this weekend, this year am doing standard red chili and a white chili for our non-beef eaters.

Wheel covers / spinners today, coroplast (plastic cardboard) and various mylar and reflective tapes. Covers can become an issue in wind so only front wheels dressed on bikes. Covers are quick and easy to remove using plastic nuts / bolts. If we have tape failure we shall stop using. If you should see us - a shout out – please…….soon!

Beautiful trike, Jax Dee. I would say focus on the lighting first, 'cause it's more important, and that trike appears to be low to the ground, so visibility is particularly key.

If this were mine I'd start with ordinary front & back bike lights from somewhere inexpensive like Target, then wrap a strand of battery operated LED lights around the handlebars. I picked up 3 pet-walking LEDs at Bed Bath and Beyond for $2 each on clearance (and used one of those "$5 off a $15 purchase" coupons at the same time; it was great).

I admit I've never been a big bike-decorator (and that trike looks pretty great on its own) but a simple slide-on tube/sleeve for the backrest and an elastic-edged cover for the seat might not be too difficult to make out of scraps.
