One Item for BM a Day (2010-2012)
Re: One Item for BM a Day
Ah yes... It is indeed time to get a new face for the playa this year. Is it moi? Is it lovely? Is it fresh?

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Nice gas mask!
Today it's as much for decom as it is for Burning Man. Put a wooden box in the corner of an unused bedroom to contain the shade poles I won't need for decom (my long term goal is to consolidate so we can empty out the storage space we've been using, and then over the winter rent a space at my local tech shop to support projects), and moved around furniture and the mattress we sleep on at Burning Man (now stored vertically behind a bookcase).
Got a bunch of stuff staged in the van for this weekend's decom, and tomorrow will finish doing that as well as organize a few bins.

Found a spiffy crisp shirt at Goodwill for $4 that has epule... epale... shoulder board thingies...
There are 6 more and I am struggling with the though of running back there tomorrow and buying all of them to send to my ministers once they are selected...

Look!!!

I bought this pouch for my utility belt. The belt and all the other pouches are hand-me-down or made by me, but, this one is awesome. It has eyeballs.

Just sew a penis on it and it would be awesome!
Just kidding - it's awesome already.

Hey DAB, the slide-through clasp thingy does look kinda like a penis to me.
And, MOOP_Nazi, it already ate my wallet and keys. But if I stroke that slide-through clasp thingy just right, it gives them back to me.
Bwahahahahaha, I love this thing so much I got a strap to go with it, so I can wear it as a purse when I get "dressed up."
I'm going to a dinner Thursday night to meet our new COO, being groomed here to take over my boss's job next year when she retires, ha, I'll be wearing dust-stained boots and a purse with eyeballs. Promote me if you dare.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
A lot more than one item this weekend:
Utility belt prototype is done except for mounting the hardware - eyelet setter was backordered but due in later this week.
Picked up another 20 sewing patterns.
Picked up about 55 yards of fabric and several yards of faux fur.
Picked up a bunch of elastic.
Tonight the sewing begins with fur trimmed lounge pants and if time permits a matching bolero jacket.

That leather work reminds me of a bunch of awesome items I saw at Eastern Market yesterday. There were keychains made of a leather boot! A little, hand-crafted, leather boot! It took everything I had in me NOT to buy something yesterday, but I'll probably be going back sometime soon for some of those items.

I'm not sure if those boots are the same, but they used to have cowboy boot keychains here that were a perfect fit for a Bic disposable lighter.deutlich wrote: That leather work reminds me of a bunch of awesome items I saw at Eastern Market yesterday. Re: One Item for BM a Day
I so want to sew! I need to find battery operated scissors, I can't use regular ones yet. ARGH.
MyLarry got almost all of our camp gear and burning stuff off the patio. Camp chairs get a bath this week. He needs to winterize the Rhoadescar for storage, and find a spot for the bikes; I have boots to clean and the blankets we use on top of the tents as dust filters to wash out, but we're practically set for post desert clean up. Then all I have to do is clear off the art studio from the kitchen table until January. I have my doubts that I have a place for all my art crap!

You might do better with an old school electric scissors (with a cord). They only weigh a couple ounces. Of course the cord is a hassle, but the lighter weight may be worth it.AntiM wrote:I so want to sew! I need to find battery operated scissors, I can't use regular ones yet. ARGH.

Not quite, but that sounds SO NEAT! This particular stand also had cowboy hats and other sorts of hats with a secret compartment in them. I almost bought one of those to gift!

My favorite skirt takes one (1) yard. My huge cloak took five (5). So you must be working on a whole wardobe!

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Well considering my playa coat took about 16 or 18 yards of fabric, 55 yards didn't seem like much when I was shopping lol. It is mostly stuff they had on closeout that I figured I'd find a use for - like 10 yards of non stretch heavy black fishnet (like they make beach wraps out of) - if I can figure out how to sew it. Some is Halloween stuff that was 60% off - a multicolor holographic cobweb print and a satiny pink with skulls and crossbones. I did grab some fabric in a metallic pink with a black squares pattern that I may attempt a short jacket in for warmer evenings.MyDearFriend wrote:Wow, dude that sounds so awesomeDrawingablank wrote:A lot more than one item this weekend:

that could be, like a whole dress back in the day!!

I had every intention of sewing tonight, but when you live in New York and the planet gifts you an 80 degree evening in mid October it just seems a sin to waste it in the house sewing. And after 16 beers, sewing was just out of the question.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I broke out the patterns and contemplated new outfits in case we get to go to the Utah Decomm. Tendonitis be damned. But I just can't decide! Something simple, and uses my shiny shimmery sheer stash of fabrics. A suit for MyLarry, if I can swing the buttonholes.
LOL, 55 yards is nothing. I must have hundreds of yards of fabric to choose from. I went wild a few years back when the big local fabric shop in the mall went out of business, and when Jo-Ann crafts went from a hole in the wall shop to Big Box and sold off their "local" stock, and whenever there's been a killer sale, plus I inherited Mom's fabric stash. Raw silk and cottons and lurex and spandex and velvet (real and panne) and brocade and linings and polyester and gauze and sheers and taffeta and upholstery and tulle and rolls of yukata cotton prints and miniature prints for the dollhouse. I have three bins, two teaboxes, and a tall tansu (chest of drawers) full, plus heaps in the scrap basket and a few bolts on the (un)work table. Sheesh. Like my mother, I am a fabric addict.
