Kendoll (he wants me to change that to MachoKenFuckingMan, but no) picked up clamps, purple pvc primer, and a storage tub (what he calls a burningman box). AND he read the first 41 pages of the environmental assessment. Me? I survived work another day with no pink slip.
Oh! We ordered shade material last night.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Congrats to all the new ticket holders!! Or confirmation number holders anyway... Still, very exciting!!
Today I finally finished my experimental glow pouches. In previous years I've done mini-backpacks, small satchels, and belt pouches to tote around all my "necessary" crap & none of those was really the ideal solution. The backpack & satchel straps rubbed too much on my shoulders (scraping off sunscreen), and the belt pouches always ended up to big & bulky making my belt all lopsided. So this year I'm trying out a series of smaller belt pouches! Here's the picture of my first 2. The smaller one can hold smokes+lighter+ash tin, and the other is roomy enough for most of my other essentials (minus snacks & water) plus a loop on the side for clippin stuff. And the "yellow" vinyl these are both made out of glows in the dark a bright green.

and that model there is Jimmy who looooves the smell of Playa dust.
I also took delivery of a really cool string of purple UV LED ribbon lights. I think it'll be the perfect accent for my fuzzy purple coat with glow-star lining...

(I know it's a tough wait, but you're going to use most of things somewhere, no matter what. A life that has no use for goggles and a headlamp is a life half-lived.)

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Started making playlists for my drive to Burning Man.
So far have done a California one and started the Oregon one.
That counts right... the journey is as important as the destination right and all that.

Of course that counts, Melaniejane!
I take my roadtrip playlists very seriously--well, as seriously as one may, when The Lonely Island's "J*** in My Pants" is a time-honored part of said playlist--and would personally be crestfallen without songs specific to
1) cresting specific mountain passes in the afternoon sunshine 2) getting funky to Parliament in the Modoc National forest after darkness falls 3) leaving the blacktop and cruising onto the dust in the wee hours (my illustrious Co-Pilot is partial to Tina Turner's "We Don't Need Another Hero" from the Mad Max soundtrack).

Re: One Item for BM a Day
BRAVO BarShirley!!! Mine and I celebrated our 20th anniversary in 2010. Even had campmates who turned out to be Universal Life Ministers (3 of them!!!) remarry us! Then we performed a little song my hub wrote and I did a jig. It was simply FANTABULOUS! Though...my original idea was to invite anyone with a (minestery of any kind) to show up at a particular place and time and remarry us (kind of a twist on the Moonie mass wedding thingie. My hubby was too shy for that idea. It's yours if you want it.BarShirley wrote:Hi EmilyD

We haven't really got anything planned as yet, still waiting for the rest of the group to get tickets.
I really do want a cake, i mean who doesn't love cake just not sure on how we will go about it as it's 4 days in.

How about non-cake cake? Brownies or rice crispie squares decorated all cake-like would be cool. Or cotton candy! Endless possibilities!BarShirley wrote:

People do also bake out there, BarShirley. Biscuits and pizzas are most common, but a friend of mine makes pies. You need "high altitude" cooking directions, a back-up plan, and/or tolerate the potential failure.
(I also just envisioned a multi-level tray of Hostess cupcakes.)

How about a pancake? Or should I say, a cake made of pancakes? Because of diet (no wheat, milk, etc, etc) I have spent a long time playing about in the kitchen so I get all the things I used to eat with impunity, just healthier versions with none of the things that cause issues. Pancakes were an early experiment, and eventually I turned the same recipe into a spice cake, which now with extra flax seed, pumpkin seeds and soy protein is vegan by accident, and dang tasty. Seems perfect to reason that a slightly more cake-like version of pancake batter can be worked up, and enterprising souls with texas skillets could be enlisted for the great wedding pancake caper. Maple cream frosting, and chocolate dipped bacon for garnish. I saw bacon roses somewhere, no reason they couldn't be chocolate dipped.
And after I typed that out, I remembered John Candy did something very similar in the movie "Uncle Buck" for a birthday cake. Just thoughts.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
If you plan to bring a cooler with dry ice, consider frozen pound cake (there is at least one commercially available pre frozen pound cake on the market, maybe more). This could then be thawed, cut / shaped / layered, then iced with canned frosting when needed.BarShirley wrote:We haven't really got anything planned as yet, still waiting for the rest of the group to get tickets.

Edit: I like the pancake idea too, but this would probably be easier to make look like a wedding cake if that's what you are aiming for.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

Good pancake idea! And if you had nothing against pre-made icing, Betty Crocker makes a bunch that doesn't need to be refrigerated until opened. I'm imagining very sweet pancakes - maybe fried with fruit in it, or things like cinnamon - then stacked on top of each other with icing layered in between...yum. Now I want to try and make that at home!

With refridgeration you might manage cheesecake. A friend used to have that for the kids' birthdays when they were quite yo ung.
