I just got back from giving a presentation on Porta potties, (and your personal camp emergency loos). I wowed em. 100 newly educated folks spreading the word. I was so flattered afterwards by the veteran burners telling me how much they had learned. It felt good and now I can focus on packing.

I was schedule to depart for the playa on Tuesday. However, I might have a possible change of travel plans. Possible -- Probable -- But not definite.

With my little accident with the trailer jumping off the ball Friday, today (Saturday) I found some damage underneath the trailer that I did not see Friday.

When the trailer tongue drug on the pavement, I damaged my grey water transfer pump that hangs under the trailer.

I went by a RV repair dealer today and of course their service department was closed and I was advised to come by early Monday morning to speak with the Service Manage to see if he has a replacement pump on hand and when he can fit me into the schedule.

It is my understanding that many RV & trailer companies use pretty much the same parts for their mechanical systems. I might be lucky and the RV repair dealer just might have the proper transfer pump in stock ---- Or, he might not.

If he has a pump in stock and if he can get me in Monday morning, the fix should only take 1 hr or less. However, if he has to order the part, my departure will be delayed until the repair is completed. Overnight FedEx should have the part in hand Tuesday morning and I will be on the road Wednesday, instead of Tuesday.

Nothing about Burning Man is perfect. The world will not come to an end -- But, it just might be delayed a day or so.

Or you could have the pump shipped to an RV dealer somewhere along your planned travel route to the playa so you can get on the road and stop along the way to get it fixed.

Thank you for thinking about me.

Having a transfer pump shipped to a RV repair shop along my route of travel is an alternate idea. But in reality; it would not save much time.

However, having it fixed here before I depart, would be much less stressful, a sure(er) thing and not have to worry that someone along the way would drop the ball.

I am staying planted in Mississippi until I am fully ready to roll.

Besides, the burn will happen whether I am on time, if I am late or even if I do not arrive a'tall.

Hopefully, by this time next year I will have a pick-up truck and a proper weight distribution system installed. I have used these systems before and they are definitely the way to go. But, unfortunately they are not a good fit for my Mercury Grand Marquis.

So I ran into a snafu today getting the tires that I ordered and paid for this week. I showed up at my appt time and was told - Sorry! We never got your order and we can't help you until the system kicks it down to us. And oh by the way, when you make an appointment online, it doesn't come through to us, as we aren't connected to that system!

ARGH! So I arranged my weekend all around this tire installation and was told nothing could be done until Monday. Sigh. So I went about my day and an hour later get a call from the manager. Lo and behold the order came through- MAGIC! BUT they still can't help me today because they are booked solid. So I took the first appointment tomorrow and had to rearrange (actually arrange) a ride. Nothing is perfect! That is for sure. But at least it's not the weekend before I drive away!!! I can handle this. I think.

Tires and alignment done! The van handles and drives so much better. No bounce in the wheel at all. I feel so relieved to have that done. Now I wait for the tags from the DMV, should be here this week.

It's about 103 degrees where I live and all my energy has evaporated. I did get a pvc pipe that I am going to turn into a flag pole. Just no energy to do it in this heat.

All my glass tiles and bails showed up for my necklaces I am making. I've been going through pictures and getting ideas for art. Hopefully the temperature will cool off this week and I can sit and create a few nights this week after work, at least that is the plan.

The secret is definitely out! The lady at the post office knew exactly what was in there. Another one came out front from the back to congratulate me on getting tickets. It was only the VS but still, nice. My son ate the fireball.

Just bought a men's dress shirt. Will cut off the cuffs as they are not only too long but were built for cuff links. It's going to protect me somewhat from Bugpocolyps.

Trailer packed and locked. Car gassed. Lawn mowed. I am all ready to head out Tuesday morning at 6:30 am for my 4-1/2 day drive.

oh no! Not even for the weekend? I just started a new job and got four days off (the min. I needed to go) and it was approved when I signed my offer letter. I feel very fortunate.

because they were so easy going on the days off, I kick myself for not asking for Wednesday off as well. I dislike leaving on Monday, but at the time I didn't want to over do the days off at a new job. Now I want to ask, but I am afraid to even bring it up.

Thanks, guys. I'm still hoping to push through and still acting like it will happen. My work contract only allows three days' leave a year*, but I need four days to be there the whole week. I thought I'd worked out a nice loophole back when tickets went on sale but now the best-laid plan is coming asunder around this tim'rous beastie!

The problem is further compounded by having taken on a role of larger responsibility in my camp and wanting very much to follow through on that responsibility.

*Yes, this is legal; I have plenty of scheduled holidays. The fixed schedule comes with the territory, I'm afraid.

I get all that. I really do. I understand wanting to follow through on commitments, most especially ones made in earnest for the playa. But, To miss out on the whole thing because you can't be there the entire time, seems, well, unfair to a degree. You obviously want to be there the whole time, but can there be an exception in this case where there is nothing you can do? Can you camp with other friends but still volunteer for the days you will be there? I understand not wanting to use the resources of lamplighters if you can't meet the requirements. But is there another way for you to use your ticket and enjoy the burn? Even if it's abbreviated?
