Very nice TK.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
A productive weekend - finished my leather covered flask, tie dyed 3 shirts (rather dissappoining results), made a dozen or so necklaces for gifting. Worked some more on the utility belt, and picked up a 32 oz nalgene bottle. Got all my camping gear together for next weekend's Disorient event.
Even found a few minutes to do some cleanup around the yard.

Tamara, that is beautiful! Job well done. Maybe we should move the piano bar over to DWD.

Had one of those white parachutes for years, still intend to tie-dye it to make a faux Shroud of Turin.

I love that style and am practicing. When they come out right they are breathtaking, when they come out poorly they are still beautiful.Bob wrote:Had one of those white parachutes for years, still intend to tie-dye it to make a faux Shroud of Turin.

This one is a silk blend and it seems to really catch the debris in the air, the down side of that is the restricted air flow.EmilyD wrote:Oooo she's a beauty! I found some excellent acrylic fluorescent paint that glows really well under black light. Also realized that glow in the dark fabric paint, when mixed with any color of regular fabric paint, glows very well too. Using it to paint the inside of our 20x10 carport. Just got done painting the inside of our tunnel tent that we are using for Sasquatch music fest this weekend. It really looks amazing and I am no artist! Picked up 2 four foot double tube black lights at a local year round garage sale store for a song and they light up the fluorescent paint like crazy! Might have to figure out how to use it on everything.....!

pssssssttttt, don't say you aren't an artist around here. These people have a weird way of turning you into one.inthecolumbiagorge wrote:I found some excellent acrylic fluorescent paint that glows really well under black light. Edited to add: On second thought. SCREAM IT! Finding some creativity in myself is one of the things that saved my soul this year. Jump into EVERYTHING, experiment, it's so delightful.

Ha, no one said you had to be a good artist, or a professional artist (whatever that is), or a commercially successful artist, or a mainstream artist, or be able to produce photo-realistic canvases.... you just have to be an artist. I'm certainly not the best, but I am prolific. Usually.
I painted a little today. Got black gesso on my clothes, forgot to wear an apron. Meh.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Got a few things knocked out recently. We had been planning to replace our old coolers, and keep the best performer from last year to use as a drinks cooler this year. We ended up finding a big Igloo marine cooler we liked. At 104l/168 cans it's massive compared to our old ones, but it'll have enough room to keep all our food on big trips (like Burning Man) and pretty much everything on smaller scale adventures. It also gets bonus points for steel hinges and a screw-cap on the drain (we've had a couple with rubber stoppers that didn't hold up well over time). Since our camp's growing this year we got a couple more 6 foot folding tables for the kitchen. I also nabbed half a dozen more flip-top storage bins (for additional shade hardware and other supplies), and took them all outside to spray camp logos on them. Then the all-important task of generator maintenance. It got a pretty good cleaning almost immediately after Burning man but gave the air filter another cleaning, replaced the spark plug (plus picked up an extra just to have), and changed the oil…runs as good as new.

Re: One Item for BM a Day
This winter I bought an enclosed trailer to use as my sealed mini-playa bedroom instead of the dome-tent I used inside my dome last year. This should give me more living space inside my 24' dome, keep the dust out better, and keep the heat out a bit better when cooled with my swamp cooler. My plan is to actually integrate the trailer into the dome structure so that when it's all set up, there is just a door in one side of my dome leading to the trailer/bedroom.
I started this weekend and it looks like it's going to work out nearly perfect, without using any special struts or anything:

And now you have more space to bring more stuff... which means... You'll bring more stuff!!!
For what its worth, one member of our camp had some old removable seats from an old Passenger Van. They are smaller than a couch but very very comfortable, especially compared to folding camp chairs. I bet you could find some real cheap at a salvage yard.
They sorta look like this but they are blue and leather, so the playa dust wipes off pretty good with a wet rag.

Why don't ya stick your head in that hole and find out? ~piehole

Re: One Item for BM a Day
Thanks all for the kind comments. I think it will be really slick once I modify the canopy to mate up with the trailer, and build a better swamp cooler for this year. I may bring an inflatable couch or one of the flat pack plywood things for lounging space inside the dome. The trailer is about the same size as the one I brought last year, but this one is enclosed, so I'll probly bring about the same amount of stuff (too much), but have more space and comfort when I get set up!
