Having experienced Burning Man through the eyes of a solitary wanderer, a Velcro relationship, and moments of fleeting passion, I can understand how another person can change your experience. But the important thing to remember is that it is in fact YOUR experience. I would never trample upon the trail of a lover, nor would I allow another to do the same.
It's okay for BM to be your "me" time.

So here's my mostly tongue in cheek two shares of CityBank's worth of advice. Make sure you camp with gay boys. It really makes perfect sense. Nothing to get jealous of, she can compare bags with the 'mo's, they can play dress up the femme, can compare favorite Rachel Maddow episodes, the food will be great and ... most important ... the constant gay boy drama will make any of your own drama seem paltry by comparison!
I liked the story about the daughter-in-law that came with a hair dryer the first year and now volunteers for DPW. There really is no better way to get to REALLY know a person than trapped in a small enclosure with them for a few hours during a dust storm.

For the past 11 years I've been trying to get my wife to join me.
The year before last, as I was hitting the sack at 3 in the morning with techno blaring and the dust in my tent swirling I realized that although I'd love to share the BM experience with her, she'd have a better time not being there with me.
We camp together, but at BM there's the sleep deprivation, the constant dust and loud sound level that would ruin it for her and thus for me.
Bottom line... she's happy not going, I'm happy going. Win-Win.

Husband and I did 07 together and we planned for same in 08.
Rolled in to camp at dawn Monday and by Thursday he was ready to go home.
He knew I didn't want to leave, and I knew he couldn't stay so we agreed I was to make accommodations.
Friday I packed a duffle and a cooler and moved into a girlfriend's tent while husband headed for the pavement.
He didn't get a ticket for 09; says if he even hints at wanting to join me I'm supposed to grab the nearest chair and hit him over the head with it.

I find it a bit weird that our lives are so parallel, accordianMan. Last year (#10 for me) my wife almost decided to go and backed out with about 3 months to go. When I went I was often trying to look at it through her eyes. We also like to camp (preferably above 9000 feet in the Sierras), but when I listened to the sounds and felt the omnipresent dust and wind I realized that it was better for her to not be there.
Win-Win, indeed.

It was nice bumping into you a few years ago... if you hear an accordion playing again on the playa this summer.. say "hi" again.
