I will not comment on Vulture Chow's talent, I simply don't know enough to say. However, she does have a skill, one she put some work into learning, developing and honing. You, too, can learn that skill. Then you can find what your talents in these instances are.

In other words: You're a burner. You can do it if you chose to.

Today, I picked up plastic dish pans to soak the feetsy in, clearance $.35
I also picked up some free carpet, a titanium spork, and a collapsible bowl.

The suitcases (and other types of water) are fine, Fishy. That is, if you don't mind the taste. They will pick up on odors and things in the area they're being stored, but the water itself is still fine and safe to drink. I still have a couple of the 1 gallon Arrowhead stackable dudes in our van and occasionally drink from them when thirsty (hydrate!). They taste like they've been sitting in the van for a few months, but are otherwise fine.

And yes, I totally agree - most questions/challenges in preparing for the playa have several different right answers. And what works well for one person may not be ideal for someone else, and a lot of it is up to subjective taste. I think Burning Man encourages people to start thinking that way, although slowly. First year burners tend to get what they're told to by veterans/mentors without a second thought. As each year goes by (and the brain playafies), more consideration is given to the different available options and what might work best for their individual situation. I like that aspect of the event a lot, it keeps things fun and interesting for me to revisit the planning differently with each iteration.

I'd rather drink the water from the suitcases than the Arrowhead waters bottles. At least the suitcases are made from HDPE (type 2 plastic code), whereas the Arrowhead bottles are made from who-knows-what cheapo plastic (type 7). Type 7 is a catch-all type plastic code, also known for covering plastics that leach BPAs into their contents. Knowing Arrowhead and their ultra-cheap water, it's probably some low-quality plastic. While I'm not all that concerned about BPAs and there's usually no problem with Arrowhead water if drunk shortly after purchase, something leaches into Arrowhead water over time that makes it taste like ass. HDPE-bottled water usually tastes better to me.

I'd probably just toss the water regardless, as I don't have use for it after a burn.

Worked one fire where the owner had used two fire extinguisher to put the fire down.. It was a down staires rec room. The fire had been n a store room.. Fire extinguisher dust get everywhere and makes a hell of a mess.. While cleaning up the dust.. The owner ask if I would like a glass of soda.. Sure it was hot that day.. He brought me a glass of soda with ice.. He had gone the far end of the rec room in a cabinet to get the soda.. There had been no heat from the fire. The extinguisher dust was in the cabinet and on the 2 leder bottles.. The soda taste like extinguisher.. So much for safe plastic containers..

Typically, I drink faucet water (filtered at home) from glass or stainless steel. I figure a little exposure at the burn is worth the trouble it saves.

This year I'll have a ten gallon Igloo drink dispenser.. The 5 five gallon didn't work out for me. I have run a trial with two cut to size 5 gallon bucket.. The cut bucket fit in the home freezer.. The ice fits the 10 gal. Igloo.. There is room at the top for a round plastic parts tray.. This will hold the condiments or some left overs..
If I wrap the whole thing in a couple $1 store windshield reflectors and a wool blanket. The ice should last all week. Kind of found of my cold drinks and clean drinking water. One collapsible 5 gallon container will serve for showers and what ever. I have installed a water filter under sink..I run it through the dish sprayer.. Saves on the filter.. Use it for cooking and drinking.. Replace the filter when at DST.

We found out that it is easier to carry 2 or 3 coolers than carry one large sized cooler. It's easy to organize that way. Food goes in one, drinks in another, and a small one for smaller treats.
But, let's page illy I remember he posted extensively on what size coolers work.

My A.D.D has come in handy as I have gathered all my outfits, decorated my bike, got all my lights, gifts (except booze). The only thing left is to figure out a shade structure. I am bringing my 59 airstream and need to figure out how to either reinforce 2- 10x 10 pop ups or start fresh with a big ass tarp and build a frame. Will try and hook up with a theme camp and host a wine class (wine consultant in the real world) for burners. Anyone have a easy plan for a shade structure as it will be myself and another friend, both os us old

The center of our shade is a pop-up frame covered in a double layer of camo netting. Single layer is crappy shade. However, it is wedged between two well-secured carports. Using the solid cover has always meant sadness and damage.

I camp in a 69 UltraVan, very similar to an airstream.
I added metal screw hooks in the top horizontal seam on both sides, as attachment points.
I park nose to rising sun and run shade cloth(I love aluminet!) over the top of my rig,
then down to the ground on one side, making a large triangular shade space.
Works great!

I don't plan to carry any containers larger than 2.5 gallons from here on out (at least for independent camping). I had a 5 gallon container leak...there goes 1/4 of your water.

Saw an interesting air duct flange thingy at Home Depot the other day. It seemed like it would mount to a bucket lid pretty easy. It had fingers that you bend over once you put it through the hole in the lid. The fan bolted right on top of the fingers. Still working out the rest of the parts for my "Bucket Cooler" but I got time.

I've used these before. I am putting on an external off/on switch for quick shut off. I've been doing some testing and may put some sort of water restriction device on it.
My next purchase will be a small solar pump, to raise the waste water to the top of a fleece fabric, so it can evaporate.
