Re: I want to find every eplyan at the burn.
I can understand the need to over engineer everything for the playa and some of the suggestions above sound kinda interesting or even fun.
On the other hand, there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about what the burner map app is.
1. You do need to be on facebook and have burner friends on FB for it to be of any use. If you have issues with FB then this app is probably not for you.
2. It will not broadcast your location to the entire internet - you only appear on maps of people you are FB friends with (and I'm not sure why you would friend someone on FB that you don't want to find you).
3. Appearance on the map is voluntary - you have to add yourself to it if you want to be on your friends maps. Edit: It will not automatically add you when you log in.
4. It don't care what camp you are with! Give a street location, directions to find you, a cryptic clue, or a theme camp name and location. Who to ask for (your playa name) may also be helpful. Your camp doesn't need a FB page. It will supply your friends with whatever info you provide and nothing more.
5. It can be printed out and brought to the burn - doesn't require any electronics on the playa to use it.
I print one every year - and if I ever make it out of camp I will probably find it really useful for finding dozens of friends.
Check it out at https://burnermap.com/map/?

J/K... we love you guys, and you can usually find our camp somewhere around BDV. We are the un-official stalker camp of BDV, and we must be doing a good job since Doc didn't list us on his list. Muhahahaha!

Regarding this talk about how the Bicycle Service is easy to find.... We may not be in the same spot next year, since we may turn Theme Camp and get placed wherever They decide.

Elliott, If you get placed then we can easily find you on the map.
This is NOT about Facebook or Twitter. I've never tweeted in my life. FB is for Pussys. Eplaya is where it's at for me.
This is about a paper book or map to be written on once we get to the burn.
I'm not going to use playa info computers. I'm not going to rely on a map I've printed at home before the burn and I'm not going to use an app. (My phone doesn't have internet.) All of these electronic solutions have their pros and cons. Mainly they have been readily available and Eplayans choose not to use them.
We can do this the old fashioned way with some degree of success. Just think it over and suggest a simple solution. We have several great ideas already. It interests me because I want to see more of you guys. It doesn't have to be invasive. You can take that curbside 'eplaya' sign and draw a red circle with a line through it. Just say no.

Well, the first question is: Who has access to one of those giant printers, so you can make a half dozen generic (alphabet streets just letters) BRC maps... One for Elderberry, one at BDC--MDF as custodian, perhaps? or Doc--Elliot, other people will show up. Enplasticate them, and you can use them every year. Although, a book with further elucidations (and random scribbles all over it, by Sunday) might be called for.

I was signed up to be a bouncer at the M&G, but of course work prohibited that.
Not next year though.
I did see Elliot, which was cool.

You would need a place to keep it - but this is an idea. My camp has a table that we cut and then tape together around one of the support poles of the pyramid. One of our campmates prints a big map of the city and then he covers it with plastic. We can write all over it (and we do) but then he can wash the plastic and reuse it.
Here is picture. Just a thought.

Re: I want to find every eplyan at the burn.
Yes. A map is a good idea. I like the visual aspect as opposed to just a book and THEN I have to look up the address on my map anyway. Both things together would compliment each other. I use Kinkos all the time. A blown up copy costs under $3. We don't have to sweat the expense or worry about reusing them. Just trying to preserve a piece of paper for the duration of the week is challenge enough. The JRS puts out a printable layout of the streets before the event so that's easy too.
Wow. I just thought of something I want. An oval sign about 8" long. White with a black border. Black lettering that says Eplaya. (For the front of my bike basket.) It would look like a European car plaque. OK. I'm over it now...
Anyway, these are some great ideas You guys rock.

I can get a 20"x30" print done for $9. It's photo paper like output, so while it will get tacky if it gets wet it will not run like a plotter print out will.
I just need a good image of the city to print.

I think every eplayan who wishes to play shows up with a stamp pad of their eplay name and a pad of indian ink.
When we find a fellow eplayan we stamp each other, by the end of the week we'll all have a record of who found who until some really determined scrubbing takes place!
The location of the stamps I shall leave up to the individuals involved
P.S. And I think we should decide upon the size of the stamp beforehand. Far be it from me to accuse any eplayan from showing up with say a one foot by one foot stamp to mark his/her targets with....

Re: I want to find every eplyan at the burn.
I'm giving this a nudge over to the Q&A board, since that's a better fit for general event preparation discussions.
Tossing in a couple ideas that have probably already been mentioned... you may want to look into the Burnermap FB app. Actually, I'd say take it a step further and reach out to the awesome burners who created the app, and see if they might be willing to add in a field for ePlaya name, and maybe even a checkbox for ePlayans. Then maybe you'd be able to print the list of just your friends camps, the master list of all camps, and then a list of ePlayans camps with the ePlaya username on it?
There's also the idea of starting up an ePlayan camp location roll call next August, so people can choose to opt in and post the rough estimate of their camp location so you could put a list together before you go. Print it or save an electronic copy of your list onto your device of choice for the trip, and you're good to go.

Making signs for camps and bikes. NO. I haven't ditched this idea yet. I made some sample signs and got feedback on which font looks best and is easiest to read. This is a nice indoor activity.
