Lost and Found-Found items? Lost items?

Post by Dee-Nice19 » Wed Mar 06, 2024 9:38 am

For veteran burners, and virgins alike.
Whatever you bring with you that is very important should come home with you too.
I am a veteran of the Lost and Found at Playa Info, sharing some tips to make your playa life easier.
1-Don't bring irreplaceable heirlooms and valuables with you to the playa. Once you get there, things happen, and it is easy to lose track of what is important to you in the vast city. Leave your grandmother's wedding ring safely at home to avoid tears.
2-Label all valuables with your first and last name. Address stickers work great. Even a piece of painter's tape with a name written in Sharpie does the job! Make sure your phone contains contact information either on the lock screen or in your medical information.

When we process items at the Lost and Found, the first thing we look for is a name.

We then make that name searchable, so when you go to the Lost and Found database at Playa Info, you type in your name, and any lost item we have that was labeled with your name will pop right up! If you have a coat that you love, write your name on a piece of fabric with a sharpie and safety pin it to the inside of the coat or put it in a pocket.
3-If you find something, it is not a playa gift or a ground score. What you find may be desperately sought by someone.
Turn in any lost items at Playa Info near Center Camp. Lost and Found is open every day from 9 to 6 and we have drop boxes to turn in items 24/7 for the duration of the event.
4-The Lost and Found database in Playa Info is up and running 24/7 during the event, you can search pictures of items to see if your item is in the lost and found.
5-I have seen many items be returned to happy people. It all works because someone who finds something turns it in! If you find something, turn it in! Be a part of the playa magic that reunites lost items with their people.

Thanks for a post on Loss Prevention!

My addition this year was a cell phone lanyard case around my neck. It has phone, ID, notebook + writing implement, etc. The phone had a biz card for contact info between the rubber case and the phone. The front was clear, so it had a decorative post card. It would be easy to decorate them in tune with outfits. It would be interesting to collect info in the finding process on how many years that burner has been participating. Census could store that info.
