Cool Google Earth Burning Man 05?

Post by revjackassholio » Tue Nov 29, 2005 2:05 pm

Hello, has anybody checked out the Google Earth program to look at the playa? Its pretty bad ass. After you download the (free) software from Google, type in Gerlach, Nevada. Zoom out till you see the start of the playa in the upper right, then grab the map and pull it till you see the city outline. from there you can zoom in, rotate, and even tilt and do "flybys" over it. You can even save the image in whatever orientation you like.

I have not been to a Burning Man (yet 06 target date!) so I cant tell if its pre or post BM 05.

Anyway, check it out, its kinda fun! (small sample I made below)

The Google Earth image of the playa recently changed...before it only showed the outline of the city, the new view like the one posted shows center camp and other structures...to me it looks like it was taken post event 2005.

got a link? I'm missing it if it's on page 1, and I have no clue how far back to turn.

It too bad that Google Earth has their placemarker 50 mile from the black rock desert.

This is the same view (google) as prior to the 2005 event. I had started my own thread at that time and was rather excited that BRC is also on yahoo maps.

See if you can find it on the high-res pic from outer-space -- it's down at the very bottom -- at ~4:45 and Fetish. 8)
