if I go this year I will do it very last minute, by myself and with a van or other vehicle.
apart from dried soups, I can't think of how I can eat other by the largesse of others. the first year I went with a camp and we ate together. the second, i went with no camp, hooked up with one and practically died of hunger anyway. constant offers of alcohol, none of food, around the playa.
I wonder where I can help out and I will get the most offers of food. shoot down me for cynicism or lack of preparedness as you will.
thanks much.
cynical question: best place to volunteer

There are alot of easy to pack foods you can take and be ocmpletely self-reliant, which you should plan on to be prepared....you can take a small camp stove and heat up easy foods such as canned stews/soups, etc. Or go the easy route and just take tuna and cold stuff all week. Plenty of water/juice for sure you want.
When you get sick of eating your own, yes, of course people will welcome you, look at the playa calendar. There are some potlucks going on as well where you can bring something to share.
Watch for my hotdog wagon :) It will be near center camp on Tuesday evening around 5, other nights as well.

That's not volunteering, that's working for a crappy wage.
There's plenty of things you can pick up when you're buying your water that don't even require a stove or a cooler. Just sit them on the sun for a while if you want to heat them up. Campbells Chunky soups, boxes of chili, nuts, cookies, crackers, granola bars, summer sausage, peperoni sticks, oranges, canteloupe... I'm getting hungry just thinking about them.
