We can't help you. You have to help yourself... Spend sometime READING the survival guide and figure out what you need.. No short cuts by asking b-4 you read the guide.

[quote="gyre"]I have just got to read that thing one of these days.
I keep my cameras bagged and use them when the dust is down.
Mostly I'm too busy to focus on the cameras.
Other than that, you'll have to be more specific.
You need [u]good[/u] goggles and water.[/quote]
I was just wondering if anyone has a climate semi-controlled environment that they wouldn't mind me storing my meds and cameras in during the more drastic temperature peaks.
Everything else I've got covered but I just can't wrap my mind around how to solve this problem since I'll bee living basically outside for the week...

Have you talked to your doctor about where you're going and how to store your medication?

Yeah I know and I'm planning on implementing what I can. The thing is, there are the operating extremes that I'm concerned about.
Above and below a certain temperature, some of my equipment will fail and It's not like I can return the next week after finding out I did not get any shots for a reshoot.
I'm seeing my Doctor on the eleventh for a stress test so I will ask him about the trip but I know my inhalers at the least need to be stored below a certain temperature...

The survival guide is LITERALLY a SURVIVAL guide! By "living basically outside" I hope that doesn't mean you have no shade or shelter! This is no state park. Is it fun? Hell yeah! But only if you show up prepared to take care of yourself, and that means reading the guide and providing yourself with basic necessities for survival in a harsh desert climate for a week.wynturmute wrote: Everything else I've got covered but I just can't wrap my mind around how to solve this problem since I'll bee living basically outside for the week...
If that's too hard or too expensive, well... it's not like those requirements aren't made clear ahead of time...

I understand this, its just that my plans have changed recently and I'm on my own now, so to speak.
So I have to iron out a few bugs from the new plan. I intend to take the necessary precautions in order to not die, I am only asking if anyone would not mind sharing potentially a cubic foot of climate controlled space so that I might store my sensitives during the hottest and the coldest moments.
I'd be happy to reciprocate by some means...

[quote="Captain Goddammit"]Good, I was starting to worry that you'd have a really bad time![/quote]
Even if I come out of this half dead, I think this will be a defining experience in my life.
I don't believe I could have a bad time but then again, the last time I stayed out side over night was when I passed out in my car last winter. Thankfully my ex-girlfriend brought me a blanket.
May we cross paths...

what sort of temp extremes are you worried about?
If out of the direct sun, the temps will be ambient only. So,
I'd think most equipment is ok between 40-110 deg. F.?
and, if you can even just insulate a container, and, again, keep it out of direct sun, said container will moderate temperature extremes.....and have more of the average interior.......
ie: with 40-110 deg. extremes, the interior may well achieve 60-90, or whatever. The more insulation, the more it'll head towards the "average" temp for the period, with smaller temp swings.
I can see, perhaps, some meds being more sensitive, though. But, then, with them, an ice chest perhaps?
I'm no expert, but, have spent, literally, years, wandering the desert rock hounding in that area........
Just some random thoughts, from, a random thinker.......
good luck

Well my GPS has to kept under 90 degrees for protracted lengths and my meds under mid 80s I suppose a cooler would work for the meds My digicam and one of my camcorders fail above 100 degrees and the digicam would actually be destroyed at that temperature for a length of time. Things like my mylo2 I have just decided to leave home rather than risk destroying.
I've also decided to bring a flesh and blood journal instead of a laptop to chronicle my week...

Enable the bbcode on your profile to get the quotes to work.
It should work in preview.
I'm dismayed any electronics would fail at 100 degrees.
That's the temperature of a hot car with sheltered equipment.
A tray in the top of a cooler should work for your meds.
You can get bags made for beer kegs made of a refectix type stuff.
Might be useful.
We used to use mylar mirrors over sensitive equipment in sunlight.
Reflectix or silvicool should be good enough.
I should get more sophisticated, but I use a plastic bag and a pack.
When not in use I keep cameras in the tent.
Last year was very dusty.
I leave the best camera home.

You're still making it sound like you're gonna show up with no shelter... ??wynturmute wrote: Even if I come out of this half dead, I think this will be a defining experience in my life.
