Another year, another attempt to Burn !!!

Post by Steve2D2 » Wed Aug 13, 2008 9:25 am

Hi, my name is Steve, and I am an Australian living in London. I left Sydney in 1999, and travelled across the USA, where I first heard of Burning Man ... I have wanted to go ever since ! Every year I make plans, and every year something happens, and my plans fall through ! This year I was meant to be going with an American friend of mine, who was going to organise everything from over there, but he has now had to pull out (due to work), and I am stuck in the same position again ! I would really love to go this year (who knows if I will get another chance next year), but now I am going to be arriving myself, without any camping gear, and a few days after the start date. I am going back home to Australia, so the US is a convenient stop on the way, but this means I can't carry any camping stuff with me from London, cos I will have too much luggage to take back home anyways ! I am not going to be arriving until Friday 29th either. Could someone point me in the right direction to see if I would even be able to turn up a few days late, try to buy camping stuff over there, find public transport out to the grounds, and then find somewhere to camp ? I would imagine there would be plenty of both Londoners, and other Australians going ? Any help appreciated :)

Hi, Steve,

This _will_ be the year you make it. I'm sure lots of people will jump in with recommendations. Try
http://www.twincitysurplus.com/
They help Burners every year, and in the past they've provided an all in one set of gear for all you foreigners - they'll sell you everything you need in one stop. You probably can get cheaper stuff by going to different stores and shopping around, or you can pay more for the convenience. If you want to shop around, drop by Louise's page at
http://civilizedexplorer.pbwiki.com/CivExReno
and see if that looks overwhelming.

If you do the Twin City Surplus route, just go to the Web page, pick out all the stuff you want, pay for it, and they'll hold it for you till you pick it up. The issue is convenience.

To get rid of your stuff after the Burn, go here:
http://www.cieux.com/bm/alerts.html
and look under recycling for drop off points that will take your garbage, too.

See you on the playa.

OH! Do you have your ticket? No ticket sales at the gate this year.
