Hot Springs of Sierra Nevada
Hot Springs of Sierra Nevada
Here's new Thread for you, Hot Springs! How many of you out there stop on the way to or from BMan to savor some time soaking in super-heated mineral water? How many of you would like to?!
No matter what direction you're coming from you can detour or plan an alt route by the road less traveled to catch a nice reviving soak. At the risk of the site being over run I'd volunteer the Fish Lake HS as a great place to stop and relax on the long drive up, or to decompress on the way back home. (If you live to the South on 95 or to the West on 6.) Anyone else?

III, is that the one just before that cool alt road to 95 S. of the ski areas? I've passed a Red Barn wil tubs out back, just before the crutial turn-off to Mamouth Lakes (?) plus a ton of old rusty farm/mining equiptment in a field beside? I've never stopped there, how is it? I prefer the patch of HS just West of there at 95, a bunch of rock tubs and a hoot creek, too. Just North of this cluster is Travertine and Buckeye Creek, both very hot spots.

dunno what you mean by alt road to 95s from the ski areas. s6 goes from bishop (which is a bit south of mammoth) over to 95. a couple dozen miles before the nevada border, you'll pass through a town of benton. if you go north (i think there's only one major intersection in town) you'll get to benton hot springs after about 4-5 miles. there's a lil bed&breakfast with a campground out back, and that campground is the one with the hot tubs for each spot.

Benton Springs
I think hes talking about Benton rd. It cuts from Benton over to the Mamoth area. And yes Benton is the place with all the bitchen relics
around town. The springs are off of 6 a few miles on Benton rd. Also check out the spring south of Bishop. I dont know the spelling but its said Keho. Stop below the resort, theres a nice hot stream right off the road.
It,s a great place to relax and group up.

Places near Buckeye and Travertine
On a side note, my sister's motel and campground are right near Bridgeport and the above two HS. Check it out. http://www.virginiacrksettlement.com/
It's about beer O'clock guys....where's my riot?
Yea, Benton Rd, cuts off by the B&B/HS and winds up at 395 S. of Mamoth, it's a bitchin Rd and takes you right by a cluster of great HSs built by shepherds. Also, Bridgeport is very near Travertine and Buckeye, both fine places to soak, Bukeye has free camping.
III was asking about Fish Lake off of 6, it's in Nevada between where you leave 95 (N. of Tonopah) and the State line. Look for NV town of Dyer south of 6. Anyone taking US 95 (LV, AZ, etc) may want to detour for a visit, I guess it isn't very practical to use 95 to 6 to 395 to ...? unless you have a lot of time.

On another thred Honey asks about the HSs below Hoover Dam. I went once years ago to the one called BoyScout HS. You park off road just before you get to view of the dam (see HS Guide for milage) at trail head and hike down a VERY steep rocky trail with a steel cable in places to hold onto. I had heard that the walls that form the main pool had washed away but are likely rebuilt by now (by Boy Scouts?) As I recall, about 40 min's down and twice that back up and out. Only hassle is the HEAT. After climbing for almost an hour in 110 degree heat, then soaking in 104 degree water, the hike out can be miserable and/or dangerous! There are one or two HS accessable by boat in the same general area that I've always wanted to visit myself. One book shows an old rusty steel ladder from sandbar/beach to site of the Tub(s.) Then there is a HS near the burned out casino (Silver Spike? Gold Strike?)on that same road. I live in Las Vegas and often just toodle overthe hump to Tecopa HS. The "public" (PUBIC!) spas kind of suck: not co-ed, average age 55, next to an RV Park...but ARE great for soaking, have showers and toilets, are open 24/7, free, etc. I prefer to rent a little over-priced cabin at De-lite's HS up the road, they have several small tubs and one open air pool. In these it's just you and your party. Also a hot creek near by! And town of Shoshone just 14 miles N. with gas, food, booze, museum, etc. Any Burners going HS hopping in S. NV this summer pls e-mail me and maybe we could get together!
Always thought the desert near Tecopa would be an ideal place to set up Camp for practice. Near the luke-warm spring (outdoor free tub) would be a perfect place for a trial run of new tents,etc.

Tecopa Hot springs;
I work in the Tacopa area often and I'm very familiar with the areas Polzicons is talking about. I also have a good friend that works for the B L M in that area and he just told me that ther is a Burner out there with ideas about a gathering. I'm not sure but I think he said the guy works for Delights. I will Get the facts straight and PM Polzicons.

Honey............
Ain't life a wonderful thing!
That barren patch (like the surface of the Moon) could be transformed into vibrant coolective one weekend and then ALL traces of our passage removed. Honey, what weekend is it that they do the big town-wide celebration, memorial day or 4th of July? I've seen the stage at the Crowbar and know that those country phreaks like to party! Any other HS ideas? Did you get my take on HSs "below Hoover Dam?" -Pol

China RAnch date farm;
My bud that works out there has got something going on with the chick that runs the B&B at the date ranch. Heres the good news, she wants to go to a burn. Maybe we could talk to her about a spot?
The name of the guy in Tacopa that wants to get something going out there is Mr; Zellhofer, I hear he owns most of the town.. I was also told that hes the one that promoted the partys Polzicons talktd about seeing in Shoshone. I guess that didnt go over to well, bad time of the year and lots of fucking flys!
Personaly I would like to see a mid year gathering at Deep Creek hot springs. It would be a central location for Palm Springs and the high desert, Lancaster ect. It's just an idea, I dont know how Mike at Bowin
Ranch would take it but if it sounds good to others I will look in to it.

Oh my Ghawd! Aint the world getting smaller all the time? Bowin Ranch (as per Honey's past post) I think I've been there! Put $5 in an evidence bag and slip thru the slot, park and hike down to the river. Several pools and cold river water with cliff trail back to Bowin's? What a spleanded spot! I found a place where the water from extreme upper tubs drained down to river level and had the best "shower-massage" of my life!
That's a long way from where I'm at but sometimes go to Santa Barbra/Goleta area to work the summer shows--how I found this site near Hesperia--so you just never know... Organize it and I'll show up! Excellent river-side HS people, don't be turned off by the intimidatingly long hike from Traihead, $5 or $10 slipped into the slot at Bowin's Ranch House could save a lot of hassles. Just watch out, the trail is steep and exposed (tho beautiful!) and requires good boots, pack some good flashlights incase you return after dark! Hey, if there are enough interested in meeting there, we could camp out by the river...
Yea, Honey, I'm sure we're talking about the same place! Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
