delle wrote: Did you opt for hanger or for stand? What are you packing it with? On one of the sites I visited they inserted a quality (formed) wooden hanger, then loosely packed it with crumpled newspaper, sealed up the bottom and arm holes and then carefully filled with low-expansion insulation foam. This just seemed like a really sturdy (tho still easy and cheap) way to go..... It can hang off a chain from the ceiling beam when in use, but be tucked or hung away when having my unsightly nudie form around isn't appropriate.

I also liked the alternative of getting an old, cheap sturdy floorlamp - cutting the post to the proper height then attaching it to a wooden base with a pipe flange.... but frankly I don't have the space on the floor. And there's a tickle-factor to the thought of having me floating from the ceiling....
My problem with both of those methods was getting the daggone thing to hold still at more-or-less eye level while I was working. My husband finally took pity on me and loaned me a camera tripod; I dug a hole in the bottom of my torso, jammed it down on the mount and it works just fine. It even swivels!

Oh and I stuff mine with plastic grocery bags and the insides of old pillows.

I like the tripod idea! Maybe I can borrow my son's. I'm pretty sure he's not using it. In fact I'm pretty sure that he probably doesn't even remember he owns one.

....and anyway he must be so anxious to get my body out of hanging from the beams in the main room, I'm sure he'd offer it up gladly just to get it out of there.

So I ended up going with duct tape and pillow (or rather couch) stuffing. We ran all over town looking for the paper tape, to no avail.

I bought what I thought was 3 rolls of it at Bureau en Gros (Quebec's name for Staples), only to find once I got home that it was actually NOT the Wet-'n-Go type, but of a sticky variety that's more akin to a post-it note than anything else. Useless for this project. (tho I'm keeping a roll for other uses).

Fortunately Duct tape was on sale at the local co-op.

Price was 2 rolls @ 3.99. We barely even started using the second roll.

Gotta say tho.... it sure is less lumpy than I am.

Stuffed duct tape holds pins nicely, that's a big bonus when draping slippery/delicate stuff but it can leave a sticky residue on the pins, so, I keep my through-the-tape pins right on my torso-thing and try to put them through the seam allowance whenever I can. Just a heads-up there Delle!

And hey, those "lumps" you see in the mirror are in your mind. That shapely shape really is you!!!

Wouldn't letting a properly fitted tight t-shirt live on the dummy work? Then you can pin into the t-shirt rather than the tape itself? Or am I just being naiive?

I've never worked with a dummy before.

(What a lovely statement that is! Where it only true!)

My opinion: trying to fit a t-shirt on their sounds like a pain in the butt, and then you'd spend all that time trying to not poke the pin into the tape. I go stickadee-doo all willy-nilly on my dress form (which is a spongey material) and wouldn't really be able to work, trying to pin shit to a t-shirt on the form, instead of to the form, which is the point of a form...

May the willy nilly stickadee doo-ing commence !

I agree trying not to stick to the tee shirt would be a bigger pain

This weekend I purchased the most awesome suede/faux fur coat in the greatest shade of blue at a resale store (and it's brand new!)

Yesterday I received my lovely shemagh/keffiyeh that will be used to cover my face

I got a couple of 24 oz. insulated water bottles from Sierra Trading post. they are also clearancing in some colors on the direct site for polar bottle. Not a thermos, but a double wall plastic with a mylar foil in the space between the walls. They'll snap right into the bottle cages on my bike. I like having my bike carry some water. I haven't been concerned about it staying cool, but thought I'd give these a try. I got purple bottles to match my chopper. Image

Made some P38 can opener earrings. Nothing says self reliant chic like having a small can opener hanging from your ear.

With summer approaching, keep an eye on Big Lots, they get solar and battery LED lights for gardens, patios, and so on. We got some great lights there last spring. They sell out fast.
