Prototyped my hammock stand today, think it's going to do the job. Will find out next week when I take a weekend out to camp and test my whole shelter out! :D

Replaced the screens in the trailer today. Finished the hem on ken's purple caftan thingy.

Frig on trailer still only works on gas. Going to have other RV guy look at it. The first guy just wants to sell us a new one. WAAAYYYYYYY to expensive.

Oh gosh you are having so much fun, Tamara!

And Figjam!

I have got to get moving here, wow, I almost finished my new green lame skirt today but, hmmm got sidetracked by some beverage alcohol and now I'm afraid to touch that beautiful thing until I sober up...

I did buy some little clip-on blinky lights from the interweb, though. 8) I have no qualms about drunk-shopping, unfortunately.

Picked up a couple pieces of art for the Home, although one was just stretched canvas I wanted, with a picture so bad even Godzilla couldn't save it (firetruck stencil thingy for a boy's room, craft painting in its lowest form).

Cheap tarps for the NoCostCo, which is what I do at the regional. $3 each. Giving them away, not investing in them.

Found the solar rope lights at HF, going to try them out.

Damn, a whole bus! I thought we were extravagant buying a new car, but......
We tried out the sleeping situation in the back of the car and determined that we need additional padding if we want to be happy sleeping in it for a whole week. The good news is that we were low key enough not to get caught sleeping in a no camping area right next to the salt marshes near Santa Barbara. Also found solar path lights and tiki shot glasses at the 99 cent store.

That is amazing! It's people like you who keep our economy rolling.
I NEED to swing by your camp one day.

I won't be buying a bus, yet, though I did buy a li'l 13' Casita trav trailer
and am grabbing a honda 2000i genset.
And a new transmission for my truck, aw fuck.

I love the running stilts. Never knew they made 'em.

I love Grocery Outlet for Burn shopping! Cheap jerky, individual travel packets of trail mix, strange tapanades, smoked salmon. There are also picnic utensils and first aid. I'm not sure I trust their solar lights, but . . .

Last year they had "Taco Bell" brand sealed entrees of beans, rice and cheese; it didn't need to be cooked and was good with nachos.

It's like a garage sale for food! I even scored a comforter set for $8, real down.
I turned my wife on to the place and she's hooked.
Those Taco Bell meals rocked!
The pad thai and satay noodles in the 'take-out' boxes, all cooked and ready to eat, mmm.
Unfortunately they don't have em in our store anymore :( Grab em if you see em.

Hmm...
Grade B maple syrup, check.
Taco Bell MRE's, check.
Provisioning at Grocery Outlet, check.
Something tells me you'll be dining just fine on the playa...

So I posted this a while back:

And I finally got some $ and some time this weekend... and after a day of cutting and pressing this is where I'm at.

Image

I was using a jig I designed and built with a 10 ton electric/hydraulic press. I can't imagine how you guys do it using a vise or a hammer. I was thinking the whole thing was a stupid idea long before I was done for the day, and I've only pressed half the ends - no holes drilled yet either. Jeebus.

LOL, unfortunately it's not my workshop... just happen to be fortunate enough to work for an outfit that lets me use their shop!

Plan is to paint them, yes, but the fact is with under 100 days left and a ZILLION things to do, some nice to haves like color may get skimped on this project!

Fantastic!
Did you heat and press or go cold? With such sexy contours and curvy curves it almost looks drop forged. Damned good job!
I have an old 100-ton press but I don't know if it'll be able to do the job. It's a 400lb german cast steel monster with only 3 inches between ram and rest. And the ram is only 4 inches in diameter. Not sure I could even fit the dies in there.
Could you post a pic of the dies you are using?

Nice work!

Oh I agree, that's why the B struts have a red mark on the end I've pressed so far. There will definitely be a color coding system, I meant I wanted to paint the whole strut but I doubt I'll have time or patience for that.

Thanks very much for the kudos, I will take a photo of the cobbled together die I'm using (don't have one handy at the moment). The die, fully open is only about 3 inches tall, and the press I'm using has a 3" diameter ram (though my die is considerably larger than that, just because of the way I made it). They're cold pressed, and then I plan to build a jig for grinding all the ends nicely to look like the short test piece in the first picture.

Planted the entire back 40 (square yards not acres unfortunately) in veggies to hopefully save some money on groceries and put it towards what is shaping up to be a massive gas bill for the 5400 mile round trip.

Turned over my dandelion patch last week with the intent of redoing the lawn, but while sitting there drinking PBR and looking at all that dirt I thought that veggies might be more practical and I'd just plant the lawn in the Fall.

Sort of a burner victory garden.
Savannah: I don't know what it is, but no thread here escapes alive. You'll get 1 or 2 real answers at minimum, occasionally 10 or 12, and then we flog it until it's unrecognizable and you can't get your deposit back.

I hit the sales at Hot Topic and Claire's and stocked up on cute socks, fingerless gloves, and panties/thongs for the NoCostCo. Sure, a regional project, but it is burner related.

Hey, cute panties for a buck or two? I don't even care that I can't wear them, someone will enjoy the hell out of them!
