Added a shopping cart full of liquids (booze, waters, sports drinks) to the "burning pile"
and a couple other little odds and ends for costumes.

Salvation army had a 50% off sale yesterday.
I picked up football shoulder pad / roman gladiator like armor
(WTF? That's some serious shit, wouldn't let my kid near the sport...) and a bucket helmet.
Scored a dozen t-shirts with unacceptable and, hopefully, offensive
stuff on em.
A pair of bib overall shorts. Love those.
Three pairs of carpenter's jeans. About the only kind I wear.

$15 out the door.

Picked up 2 sleeping bags this weekend.

Sounds weird, but we already have two 30 below mummy bags we have been afraid to subject to playa dust. We used comforters the last 3 years pretty successfully. I decided that we could save on bulk by not bringing the comforters this year. Don't know why I never thought of it before.

Reading this thread reminds me that I need to drag out the solar lights to see which ones need replacing.

Have been thinking about food....

Tried out some canned chicken today. Thought it might be good snack food, or sandwich filler. It was awful. It looked like the gourmet stuff I feed the cat - and smelt a bit the same. One mouthful later - which I spat out - I put the rest in the cat’s bowl. He took one mouthful and then just glared at me.

So that was a fail...

But on the upside the LED lights I ordered for my bike arrived in the post.

My mom makes great chicken salad with it. I don't care much for chicken, period, but I've never had such a horrible experience with it.

I splurged and bought some flow toys at Lightning in a Bottle. I'm absolutely no good at poi or any of that stuff but I love to play anyway. I couldn't resist the Flowscrima that Flowtoys sells. They were sooo pretty at night!

Great marketing strategy; go to a music festival and have your employees dance around with sparkly glowy toys to the music. It got me!

Flowtoys.com. I have no affiliation with them. I'm just impressed by their lights and products. If you take the lights out of the staffs and just hang them on a string or something on the "breathe" mode they make fantastic ambient lights. Gorgeous!

Agreed. It seems like they blast it into a stringy mass before canning.
Our cat thinks it's just plain wrong.
Some company out there makes chicken chunks in a foil pouch. Yum, good.

DO NOT EVER buy a whole chicken in a can.
Other bummers may be had at much lower prices.

If you like fish and live near a Trader Joes, they have a canned smoked trout that is absolutely DELICIOUS. I think it's $1 a can, I know I bought a bunch for last year's burn and usually take some camping with me. You just pull the lid off and eat directly from the tin.

They also have a smoked kipper (I think), but I haven't had it

I submitted RAIDERS TAKE OVER BOOBY BAR to the official online event listing, and hopefully it'll be in the print one!

There are of course, the RAIDERS. Those anarchistic ruffians...Warm beer, cold women: MEGATON, BRC’s first & last rock’n’roll wasteland dive bar; a refuge from the happiness & organization. Moonshine, 6-8 fights to a pint! No GD techno. Good luck getting past the door guy! SPARKLE PONIES SHOT ON SIGHT. Disclaimers: By entering into the Booby Bar, you have automatically consented to hold the Booby Bar, Playawaste Raiders, Terminal City and all affiliates thereof free from liability regarding any & all injuries, dismemberments or death. Suck it.

The print version had word limit:

Warm beer, cold women: BRC’s wasteland dive bar. Moonshine, RnR & anarchy. Good luck getting past the door guy! SPARKLEPONIES SHOT ON SIGHT. Suck it.

I was reminded there's like, a 100 days left (less, now) and I need a ride and something to wear!

I was like this last summer when there was a "Grocery Outlet - Coming soon!" two blocks from my house. I was like . . . are you kidding with this, a Grocery Outlet opening just in time for the Burn?!?

. . . Descended on that store like a massive, chatty locust.

You've never seen a whole chicken in a can? I want one to put in my pantry to confuse the heirs.

Regular canned chicken is awful without doctoring. We put it in couscous with raisins and spices, and it is alright that way. I've used it in emergency enchiladas too. Never, ever eat it straight, only tuna holds up to that standard.

And even then, take-out packets of soy sauce are nice for canned tuna. I've been saving 'em.

Having indulged myself today by making a tutu (black & gold), I now have to knuckle down & put the daggone grommets in my aluminet.

Testing it this weekend, hoping for windy weather on the Potomac...

Lol, forehead bra. Canned chicken is a playa only food, which we might make twice out there. So I eat maybe three to five ounces in one year, at the most. I am not worried. My own hormones tried to kill me and I survived that.

Savannah wrote:I bought three varieties of preserved food to test.

* Napoleon Brisling Sardines in garlic sauce
* Underwood Devilled Ham spread
* Hormel Lean Smoked Ham

I have no idea if I like sardines (other fish? usually yes, but I would like something else to break up the vacuum-sealed salmon parade) and am curious as to there is a such thing as an amusing junk food ham.

I already like the Underwood Devilled Chicken in its disgusting, homogenous salty goodness. I eat it only on the playa, on whole grain bread, cut into little triangular sandwiches, like it's Tea Time for Satan.
Verdict:

* Underwood Devilled Ham Spread - Did not eat more than a bite. Dry, crumbly and unflavorful--as gross as their Devilled Chicken is amusing, salty and paté-moist. (Your mileage with the Devilled Chicken may vary. I cannot emphasize this enough.)

* Hormel Lean Smoked Ham (6 oz.) - Recognizably chopped, flaked ham. Tasted . . . like ham. Admittedly strange in texture, due to its fragmented nature. Slightly dry, in the way that eating drained tuna by itself can be dry. I mixed this with mayo and spicy mustard--as if it were tuna--and sandwiched it with whole grain bread, and ate it. Best use: stirred into scrambled eggs. If I were into scrambling eggs on the playa, I would bring this. Better than spam (in flavor, & that there's no chopping or slicing needed) . . . though I think it requires either condiments, eggs or other ingredients, and if I wanted large pieces or familiar texture I would opt for a canned ham and slice it.

I am still working my way up to eating the sardines. I'm afraid of them . . . but I have to know.

canned chicken drift reminds me of Blue Highways where someone gave the author a can of smoked oysters, I think it was, just so he would always have something to eat.
