Sticky stuff that doesn't leave residue

Post by swamp monster » Wed Feb 17, 2010 10:36 am

I have this fantasy that there is something similar to duct tape that will not leave sticky goo on an RV that has to be returned. I fugure a week of those temp extremes, there might not only be goo, there might be paint coming off or something expensive. Is there any non-goop/vehicle safe tape out there?

3M and eplaya, answer my prayer.

Painter's tape doesn't leave goo on the van after a week in the playa.

Duct tape goo comes off with Goo Gone.

Yes, gaffers tape. More expensive, harder to find. No sticky mess. They use it to tape down wires in theatre and concerts.

Anyone ever try Gorilla tape? Nott as goopy on the adehesive side, but sticks like duct tape...just don't know what heat does to it.
anything worth doing is worth overdoing..

Yep, gaffer tape is probably your best bet. Designed to hold props in place during photography and filming, then be removed without damage.
You might try a professional camera store.

Yes again on the Gaffers tape. They carry it at Guitar Center. It's generally as strong as duct tape, but much more forgiving on the goop. Only thing is that I still can't imagine that it won't leave some residue, considering the sun on the Playa.

Also: Whatever you're doing with it, you're gonna need a LOT more than you think if you're supporting anything that'll be subjected to wind loads. That shit gets CRAZY...Stronger than you might think (if you've never been to BRC before).
