The week immediately following BM I go to Wheatland, a nice little bluegrass/folk/traditional music festival in Remus*, Michigan....Grass feels (and sounds) AMAZING after a week or longer "on the moon".
*yes, there IS a Romulus, Michigan too.

@ B.B. Sue, since I live very close to the Sierra Nevada Brewery, I've already planned on bringing some growlers of Sierra Nevada that is only available from the brewery. At least one of them will be saved for the meet/greet, find me there.
What other people think about you is none of your business.

Please tell me more about freezing of grapes and blueberries (and maybe other fruits & berries). My limited experience is that freezing turns such things to mush. But then, you are talking about letting it defrost in your mouth, right? I am bringing a huge freezer and pondering what to load it with. (Ice cream, yes.)

I eat the blueberries frozen.......yeah, they get sort of mushy when thawed.......but, even mushy blueberries are good, to me at least.......
add them and frozen, crunchy semi-sweet chocolate chips.........maybe even raspberries..........oh my.......
I saw a nice little freezer at Sam's club for about 100 bucks......and, very low amperage draw......seems it was well under 500W.

Alton Brown just had a show on freezing strawberrys & he flash froze them with dry ice before putting them in the regular freezer.Elliot wrote:![]()

We used to have one for Eplaya Bar Camp. I don't know where it is. Although I am rumored to have it, I do not.FaeTora wrote:You know we should make a big NEB at the eplaya meetup for us all to lay in then we could all snuggle and talk.

Birdseye pioneered flash freezing.
Avoiding formation of crystals is key.
Oh my, that sounds so good! The boo and I were planning on bringing some dry ice, anyways... Flash-frozen fruit (particularly raspberries) and chocolate chips will be part of my "Things to give out on Wednesday" list.ygmir wrote:add them and frozen, crunchy semi-sweet chocolate chips.........maybe even raspberries..........oh my........
I was already planning on bringing snuggles, so no need to add that to the list, it's just a given

Still looking for suggestions on the best burgers joints near the playa.
I'm not bringing stuff to actually cook on the playa... It's my first year and I'm sacrificing cooking (living off canned ravioli and boil in bag meals) in order to see as much of the playa as possible. So, no actual cooking this year!Boijoy wrote:I don't think there are any burger joints near the playa. bring the fixens & cook some up!!
But, a few people in this thread said they got burgers in town...

There are very few reasons to go to town during the burn. Apart from "Crucial Camper Cannot Find Another Ride" they all pretty much come down to "Total FUKCING Meltdown Emergency With Camp Infrastructure." Wanting a burger doesn't count. It can piggy back on the other two, but if it's the second, you'll feel kinda crass about it.

Ever tried pouring a little sweetened cream over frozen blueberries? The cream coats the berries and freezes on contact... yummy creamy fruity goodness.ygmir wrote:frozen blueberries
Any early arrivals want fresh organic blueberries/raspberries/apples/pears? Provided this fucked up weather doesn't completely screw my crop this year...

Yeah, guess I'm just a fruit snob. I like my berries firm.... actual berries... and fruit..... Ahem...
Come visit us at C.R.T.T. I always try to gift some blueberries to the neighbors on Friday morning before they spoil... It's amazing how many turn them down!
Hope the crop turns out! It's late this year, good for BM timeline, possibly bad for quality/quantity though, we'll see. If the berries are this late coming in, I worry about the pears and apples....
