Old Virgins

Post by Riverkilt » Sat Apr 02, 2011 8:55 am

So I'm 66, will be nearly 67 for BRC. Been invited by a 72 yo ladyfriend. We're both virgins. I live on the desert and am used to the heat.

Wondering if we'll be the oldest folks there?

Don't think so. It's a very wide range, and you won't stand out, so don't worry about that. Have a smile on your face, and you'll fit right in! Sounds like you are prepared for the environment, and that's the main thing to be ready for at any age.

jump on in Riverkilt..........you had posted a while back, IIRC.

you'll fit right in, not oldest, maybe older than average, but, "who cares"?
have fun, the rest will fall in place.

67 is by no means old. I mean, just look at Ygmir; he doesn't look a day over 65. But I digress. Don, a member of BDC&WB, looks like the old man in Pinocchio and has to be on the shady side of 80. And I'm pretty certain we have late-60s and 70s in our camp as well. So don't worry about it whippersnapper, you're only as old you feel anyway.

One of my favorite pictures is of a lady I've nicknamed "granny" in her electric wheel chair, bent over from age, toothless, riding topless in the Critical Tits Parade two years ago. The smile on her face says it all. I'm one of the older ones but once on the Playa I tend to forget my age and have a ball. Don't forget that we grandparents know how to give and receive great hugs

I think you'll both do just fine at BRC

Last year I gave rides to an 80 something gal a few days in a row, she was very comfortable at "Sit Camp" on the Esplanade.

IIRC "Sit Camp" burners sit and watch the playa roll by, they give ice water and other gifts...very mellow camp...
I'm the MAN in a truck, burner who is stuck, you're in luck! I'll whip out my BIG tow chain and not charge you, not even one lousy buck!

The more people your age, the younger I look! Please come and bring all of your same aged friends!

Don't forget Randy's mom too. I hesitate to guess since I can't remember, but 85 I think? She had an awesome time, and is coming back :-)

A few years back, there was a friend of mine in her 80's at the meet and greet. She had her own oxygen tank with her.
You will not be the oldest and you will fit in just fine!

Nobody knows how old unjohn is, but he knew Methusaleh. I'll be 64, and I know lots of people there older than I am. Louise and I ran N7B amateur radio station with this gentleman

who was older then than I am now, but I won't give his age. It was his first burn, too.

The two of you will be in the upper reaches of the age, but not the oldest, I'm sorry to say.

We took my dad(64) last year and he had a blast. You can stay immature indefinitely. Last year some of my most interesting conversations were with people in the 50+ category.

Some of the best folks I've ever met at the burn were 50+. The cool-as-hell married couple in sleek formal wear (the woman swears like a sailor in the world's prettiest British accent), the nurse who committed to at least five eight-hour shifts at medical her virgin year, the mother of someone at a camp I hang out at--she was like a phantom; we barely saw her all week flitting about doing god knows what--and a certain ePlayan who went on a bicycle art tour with me on Thursday(?) of the event and watched the stars with me from the top of his RV. Thanks again. I'm really glad I didn't fall off.

These folks give me hope that I might possible be as cool as them one day. I hope to hell. :D

I also live in the high desert and about the same altitude. And I'm 63. No problems. Go for it. Don't know if you can be too old.

After all, it is just a week long camping trip.

Met an 87 year old Polish woman coming with her daughter and granddaughters to her first burn last year. I processed them through the gate. She was THRILLED to be there. They came in an RV.
Finally moving to SF...can't WAIT!

does not matter how old you are

Post by xhoosier » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:23 am

just know your limits and come prepared. If you have HBP or Diabetic then just be prepared. I am a healthy 50 year old and almost killed my self last year because I was not drinking enough water. Amazing how quickly it will hit you. So, know what to expect and also make a lot of friends who can be there if you need it.

Welcome and I hope to see you on the Playa

Work the greeter's gate for long enough and you find out there are far more people over seventy than most people would guess.

I even saw a family come in by car that included a newborn and everyone up to grandmother.
I wouldn't even try to guess the average age anymore.

Hey, we're 60+ Birgins this year too! I'm usually the oldest at all the events I attend, and have been really pleased that no one seems to give a shit! I Just keep reminding myself that t's all in the stories we tell ourselves

I also know that it's up to me to be as physically prepared as possible, so I've been working on that. I had heat stroke when we were in Japan last summer at the height of their hottest summer in decades, so I've learned my lesson about hydration!

Can't wait for the challenge, and the fun!

Unsolicited advice;
If you're from the Pacific Northwest you may want to consider extra hydration by drinking ample water a day or few before arriving on the playa and during the festival. Google Vitalyte... Less sugary than Gatorade.
