Tickets for volunteering

Post by greenthumb85 » Fri Apr 29, 2011 3:50 pm

I hope I'm just being impatient and have nothing to worry about, but...

Last year I volunteered about a week to center camp cleanup and I didn't expect anything for it, but at the end of the work I was told I would be getting a free ticket for next year. They took my info and told me not to buy a ticket because one had my name on it already... But all my friends have gotten their tickets and I'm getting worried that mine isn't in the mail!

Anyone know when volunteer tickets go out? I hope I'm just worried for nothing, but I might not be able to afford to go if I don't get this ticket I was promised!

Oh, Mr. Couch..... sigh.

Come on over here so I can roll up your sleeve and give you a nice little shot of happy acceptance. It won't hurt.

For what it's worth, I understand that the couch is a long-time volunteer, and I can see that a "gimme" attitude is disgruntling. And I can see how he would see that as a "gimme" attitude, too.

Last year I agreed to take in in the rear by a Washoe County Sheriff(without even the courtesy of a reach-around) and I GOT a ticket!!

the problem is, Greenthumb, is that YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!

Being gifted a ticket for volunteering is a privilege, not a right. It would make more sense to contact the group you volunteered with regarding the when/where/how of getting promised ticket.

Complaining on this forum is kind of pointless, and draws unnecessary attention to yourself.

If you are really worried about having a ticket, buy one. You can always sell/gift your ticket if the volunteer gifting ticket comes through.

Having a gimme attitude is unappealing. The original poster didn't, however, unless I am interpreting it incorrectly. He was merely asking a question which seemed perfectly appropriate. IMO.

There is no unnecessary attention to one's self.

Some people seem to have misread the original post (maybe me, maybe someone else). Cryptofishist has the answer - contact someone in the department you worked for.

> It would make more sense to contact the group you volunteered with

The problem is, when you don't expect the gift of a ticket and you're given one, you don't know at the time whom to contact, what department she's in, how to make contact, nor any of that stuff.

You just volunteer. Probably don't expect anything. But when offered a ticket, well, don't think that's really expecting anything. It was offered after the gig.

Okay, okay, I admit it. i have a soft spot for Bob and Badger, crusty as they may be.
They kinda remind me of the Fishist family, we were far too aware of Oscar Wilde at a very young age, so the snark comes naturally. (Dinner--not Donner, oh misspelling fingers!--was a little like the board.) Plus, they were on the board before I was, and I like institutional memory. So I guess I'm willing to put up with behavior from them that I might not like in others.
Just so you know, I enjoy eplayans of various lengths on the board. We have a good group here.

Therein lies the rub, Bob. He didn't. He WAS promised one after the fact tho.

I'd be worried if I didn't buy my ticket having been promised one too.

Plenty of people expect a free ticket, org funding, or magic internet money.

Money, money, money. What happened to buying a ticket and doing your thing?

Its true that plenty of people do. And your response is appropriate for those. I really don't think it's appropriate to this situation tho.

I think it's wrong to confuse the two, and just belittles someone has done nothing to deserve the negative vibe.
